Anayamkavu Sree Durgadevi Temple Kelakam Kannur

Anayamkavu Sree Durgadevi Temple is a revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga (Sri Parvati). Deeply associated with the traditions and beliefs of the famed Kottiyoor Temple, it is considered a must-visit for devotees participating in the Kottiyoor Vaishakha Mahotsavam. The presiding deity here embodies both the fierce and benevolent aspects of the Divine Mother—revered as the powerful Goddess Durga and the compassionate Sri Parvati.

While the idol appears calm and serene during rituals and re-dedication ceremonies, many devotees have spoken of experiencing the powerful, formidable presence of the goddess over time. The name “Anayamkavu” is believed to have evolved from “Anamukhanamman Kavu,” meaning “the mother of Lord Ganesha.” According to legend, the temple’s origins trace back to a time when the Kurichiyas—a tribal community once dwelling in these forested hills—witnessed a divine light descending from the sky onto a nearby hillside.

Drawn to the phenomenon, they discovered the sacred presence of the goddess at that very spot. They began to offer prayers and rituals, which eventually established the place as a center of worship. Even today, it remains the privilege of the Kurichi community to perform the first pooja of the festival season at the temple, preserving a tradition that connects the past to the present.

ആനയംകാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം

കൊട്ടിയൂർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ആചാരാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളുമായി ഉൾപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, കൊട്ടിയൂർ വൈശാഖ മഹോത്സവത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്ന ഭക്തർക്ക് നിർബന്ധമായും സന്ദർശിക്കേണ്ടത് ആണെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ കണിച്ചാർ ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായതിലെ വള്ളുന്നി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് ആനയംകാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. കേളകത്ത് നിന്ന് മലയാംപടിയിലേക്കുള്ള റോഡിലൂടെയാണ് ഇവിടെ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നത്. മഴക്കുന്നിൽ നിന്ന് മണിത്തണ കണിച്ചാർ വഴി ഏകദേശം 30 മിനിറ്റ് യാത്രചെയ്താൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം.

റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽനിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 1.30 മണിക്കൂർ നീളുന്ന യാത്രയാണ്. ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ദേവത ശ്രീ പാർവതിയും ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗായുമാണ്. ദേവി ഉഗ്രരൂപിണിയായ ദുർഗ്ഗയായും ശാന്തരൂപിണിയായ പാർവതിയായും വിവിധ ഭാവങ്ങളിൽ ഭക്തർക്ക് അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നവളാണ്. പുനഃപ്രതിഷ്ഠാ ചടങ്ങുകളിലൊക്കെ ദേവിയെ ശാന്തഭാവത്തിൽ കാണുന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിലും, ദേവിയുടെ ഉഗ്രത പലർക്കും വിവിധ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളിൽ അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതായി വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.

“ആനമുഖനമ്മൻ കാവ്” എന്ന പഴയ പേരിൽ നിന്നാണ് “ആനയംകാവ്” എന്ന പേര് രൂപപ്പെട്ടതെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു — അതായത് ഗണപതിയുടെ മാതാവായ ദേവിയെ അനുസ്മരിക്കുന്നതായാണ് ഈ നാമത്തിൽ അർത്ഥം. ഒരു കാലത്ത് മുഴുവനും കാടയിരുന്ന ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് വേട്ടയ്ക്ക് പോയിരുന്ന കുറിച്യർ, ഒരിക്കല്‍ ആകാശത്ത് ഒളിപ്പിച്ചൊരു ദിവ്യജ്യോതി പറന്ന് വരുകയും, ആ ജ്യോതി ഇന്നത്തെ ക്ഷേത്രം നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന മലഞ്ചെരുവിലേയ്ക്ക് താഴെയിറങ്ങുന്നതും കാണുകയും ചെയ്തു.

അതിനെ പിന്തുടർന്ന് അവർ ആ സ്ഥലത്തെത്തിയപ്പോൾ, അതൊരു ദൈവിക സാന്നിദ്ധ്യത്തിന്റെ അടയാളമാണ് എന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കി. തങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഭക്ഷ്യസാധനങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അവർ ദേവിക്ക് നിവേദനം അർപ്പിക്കുകയും ആ സ്ഥലം ദേവീപീഠമായി ആരാധിതമാകുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഇന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉത്സവം ആരംഭിക്കുന്ന ഘട്ടത്തിൽ ആദ്യ പൂജ ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുള്ള പാരമ്പര്യാവകാശം ഇപ്പോഴും കുറിച്യർക്കാണ്. ഈ ആചാരം അവർ ആത്മാർത്ഥതയോടെയും ഭക്തിയോടെയും നിലനിറുത്തുകയാണ്.
