Kunnavu Jaladurga Temple, located in Pallikunnu Panchayath of Kannur district, Kerala, is a rare and sacred shrine that beautifully blends spirituality with the serenity of nature.
Dedicated to Goddess Jaladurga, the temple is popularly known as the 'Kunnavu Durga Temple'. One of its unique features is the ever-perennial chira (pond), which is periodically renovated, benefiting the local community by helping to alleviate water scarcity.
A small pond lies directly in front of the sanctum where Goddess Jaladurga resides, and the temple itself is surrounded by water, enhancing its mystical ambiance.
In front of the temple fort, there are three caves, with a natural spring flowing continuously from the first cave into the front area. The other two caves, located near the perimeter wall of the sanctum, also contribute to the temple’s water system. The holy anointing water from the upper level of the temple reaches the fort, symbolizing divine purity. A sacred spring originating from Puthiyapparambu Chaluvayal in Alavil flows through a cave in the wall of the smaller pond and merges with the temple pond, adding to the sanctity of the site.
This is also considered the place where the divine saint visits the chira.
In addition to Goddess Jaladurga, the temple also houses other deities including Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Bhadrakali, Lord Dharmasastha, and Lord Krishna, making it a spiritually rich destination for devotees.
കുന്നാവ് ജലദുർഗ്ഗാ ക്ഷേത്രം
കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ പള്ളിക്കുന്ന് പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന കുന്നാവ് ജലദുർഗ്ഗാക്ഷേത്രം, പ്രകൃതിയും ഭക്തിയും യോജിക്കുന്ന അത്യപൂർവമായ ഒരു ദേവസ്ഥാനമാണ്. "കുന്നാവ് ദുർഗ്ഗാക്ഷേത്രം" എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മുഖ്യപ്രതിഷ്ഠ ജലദുർഗ്ഗയാണ്. ദേവിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം ജലത്താൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട മനോഹരമായ പരിസരത്തിലാണ്. ജലദുർഗ്ഗയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ മുന്നിൽ ഒരു ചെറിയ കുളമുണ്ട്, കൂടാതെ സമീപത്തായി മൂന്ന് പ്രകൃതിഗുഹകളുമുണ്ട്.
മുൻവശത്തുള്ള ഗുഹയിൽ നിന്ന് ദൈവികമായി ജലം സദാ ഒഴുകുന്നത് ദർശകർക്കു ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. മറ്റു രണ്ടു ഗുഹകൾ സന്നിധിയുടെ ചുറ്റുഭിത്തിയോടു ചേർന്നാണ്, ഇവ വഴി സമീപത്തുള്ള വലിയ ചിറയിലേക്ക് ജലം ഒഴുകുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മുകളിലായി അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്ത ജലവും ദുർഗ്ഗാസന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തുന്നു – ഇത് പുണ്യജലമായി ചിറയിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നു.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ: ഭഗവാൻ ശിവൻ, ഗണപതി, ഭദ്രകാളി, ധർമ്മശാസ്താവ്, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ എന്നിവയാണ്.
പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും ചൊവ്വയും വെള്ളിയും ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ നാരങ്ങ തോട് കിണ്ണംപോലാക്കി, മഞ്ഞൾ തേച്ച് എണ്ണ നിറച്ച് തിരി വെച്ച് ദീപം കൊളുത്തി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചാൽ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ നിറവേറും എന്നത് ഭക്തജനങ്ങളുടെ വിശ്വാസമാണ്.
പരശുരാമൻ സ്ഥാപിച്ച 108 ദുർഗ്ഗാക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ കുന്നാവ് ജലദുർഗ്ഗക്ഷേത്രം, അതിൽ അതിപ്രധാനമായ മൂന്ന് ജലദുർഗ്ഗ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കിഴക്കും പടിഞ്ഞാറും ഭാഗങ്ങൾ ഉയർന്നും, മധ്യഭാഗം താഴ്ന്നും കിടക്കുന്ന ഉത്തമമായ ഭൂമിയിലാണ് ദേവിയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നിലകൊള്ളുന്നത്, സ്ഥലംതന്നെ ഒരു തപോഭൂമിയാകുന്നു.
