Sree Makreri Temple, located in Kannur, is a significant place of worship closely associated with the renowned Peralassery Temple.
According to legend, it was Lord Hanuman who installed the idol of Subrahmanya Swami here during the Treta Yuga. As the idol was consecrated by the supreme Markkadan (Monkey God), the place was originally named Markadassery, which gradually evolved into Makreri.
This temple is unique in Kerala for having Lord Anjaneya (Hanuman) himself as the Tantri (chief priest). The main deities worshipped here are Lord Anjaneya, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Ganapathi. The temple pond is believed to be ancient, and according to lore, it was created by Hanuman using his tail. Many devotees report feeling the divine presence of Lord Hanuman within the temple grounds. Thaipooyam, celebrated in the Malayalam month of Makaram (February–March), is observed as the temple’s main festival.
മക്രേരി സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ പെരളശ്ശേരി ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിൽ മക്രേരി ദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ ആരാധനാലയമാണ് മക്രേരി സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ-ഹനുമാൻ ക്ഷേത്രം. പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളായി ശിവപാർവതീസുതനായ ശ്രീ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിയേയും, ശ്രീരാമദാസനായ ഹനുമാൻസ്വാമിയേയും ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.
പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചത് ഹനുമാനാണെന്നാണ് ശാസ്ത്രീയമായ സങ്കൽപ്പം. ഉപദേവതകളായി ഗണപതി, മഹാവിഷ്ണു, ഭഗവതി എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സന്നിധിയുണ്ട്. പെരളശ്ശേരി സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ദർശനം പൂര്‍ത്തിയാകാൻ മക്രേരി ക്ഷേത്ര ദർശനവും നിർബന്ധമാണെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം മലബാർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണുള്ളത്.
