Shivapurot Sri Mahadeva Temple, located just 5.5 km from Thalassery in Kannur district, is an ancient and revered shrine.
Rich in Shaiva-Vaishnava tradition, this temple once radiated divine glory in prehistoric times but eventually succumbed to the ravages of time and was lost for many years.
As if destined by divine will, the temple saw a new light in Kali Yuga when, during the 2004 gold rush led by Kottur Prasad Nambeesan, a strong call arose for its reconstruction. Responding to this call, the temple was revived under the guidance of Tantri Brahmashree Thekkiniyedath Tharananelloor Padmanabhanunni Namboodirippad in July 2004.
To preserve its sanctity and continue its spiritual legacy, it was decided to observe Naga Pratishtha Day every year on March 1, under the patronage of Pambummekkad Brahmashree Vallabhan Namboothiri. The temple was ceremoniously reconsecrated by the Tantri on May 6, 1854 (as per the traditional calendar) under Atham Nakshatra in the Mithuna month, following a nine-day long divine ritual from April 29 to May 9, 2009.
Today, the temple hosts a 23-day celebration every Medam month and a three-day festival, continuing to draw devotees who seek the blessings of Lord Mahadeva in this spiritually powerful abode.
ശിവപുരോട്ട് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ തലശ്ശേരിയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 5.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രാചീന ദേവാലയമാണ് ശിവപുരോട്ട് ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം.ശിവ-വൈഷ്ണവ ചൈതന്യത്തിൽ ഉജ്ജ്വലമായിരുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, ചരിത്രാതീതകാലത്ത് അതിന്റെ മുഴുവൻ മഹത്വത്തോടെയും ജ്വലിച്ചു നിൽക്കുകയും, പിന്നീട് നശിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.ഇത് ദൈവനിശ്ചയമായിരിക്കാം എന്ന വിശ്വാസത്തോടെ, 2004-ൽ കോട്ടൂർ പ്രസാദ് നമ്പീശൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ നടത്തിയ സ്വർണ്ണപ്രശ്നം ഈ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം പുനരുദ്ധരിക്കപ്പെടേണ്ടതിന്റെ ആവശ്യകത ഉയർത്തി.
അതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ, 2004 ജൂലായിൽ തന്ത്രി ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ തെക്കിനിയേടത്ത് തരണനെല്ലൂർ പദ്മനാഭനുണ്ണി നമ്പൂതിരിപ്പാട് കാർമ്മികത്വത്തിൽ ബാലാലയ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി. പിന്നീട്, നാട്ടുകാരുടെയും ഭക്തജനങ്ങളുടെയും സഹകരണത്തോടെ രൂപം കൊണ്ട ക്ഷേത്ര പുനർനിർമ്മാണ കമ്മിറ്റിയും ട്രസ്റ്റും ചേർന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രം പുനഃ നിർമ്മിച്ചു. അതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി, പാമ്പുമ്മേക്കാട് ബ്രഹ്മശ്രീ വല്ലഭൻ നമ്പൂതിരി മുഖ്യ കാർമ്മികത്വത്തിൽ എല്ലാ വർഷവും മാർച്ച് 1-നു നാഗപ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനമായി ആചരിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
2009 ഏപ്രിൽ 29 മുതൽ മേയ് 9 വരെ നടന്ന ദൈവിക കർമ്മങ്ങൾക്കുശേഷം, 1854 മേടം 23, മിഥുനം രാശിയിൽ അത്തം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ, ക്ഷേത്രം തന്ത്രിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ പുനഃപ്രതിഷ്ഠ പൂർത്തിയായി. അതിനാൽ, പ്രതിവർഷം മേടം 23 ദിനം പ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനമായി കണക്കാക്കി മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തെ ഉത്സവമാകെ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ശ്രീ അയ്യപ്പനും നാഗരാജാവും ഉപദേവതകളായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
