Trichambaram Temple, located in Taliparamba in the Kannur district of Kerala, South India, is a revered Krishna temple.
The presiding deity here is Lord Krishna depicted in a unique Raudra bhava (ferocious form), symbolizing the moment after slaying the demon Kamsa (Kamsavadham). This temple holds special significance as one of the Abhimana Kshethrams — prominent sacred shrines in the Vaishnavite tradition.
The temple finds mention in the 11th-century Sanskrit epic Mūṣikavaṃśa, highlighting its historical and cultural importance.
The sanctum sanctorum is adorned with exquisite carvings and murals dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries, reflecting the rich artistic heritage of Kerala. Within the temple complex lies a unique shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga, located at the center of a temple tank. This shrine is regarded as one of the 108 Durgalayas established in ancient Kerala.
In addition to the main deity, the complex also houses sub-shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathi, Lord Sastha, Vishvaksena, and serpent deities (Naga Devatas).
The serene temple surroundings are enhanced by the presence of three sacred ponds, adding to the spiritual atmosphere of the site. Trichambaram Temple is administered by the TTK Devaswom (Taliparamba, Thrichambaram, Kanjirangad Devaswom), a prominent Devaswom board overseeing the functioning of around 15 temples in the Kannur district of Kerala.
One of the most celebrated events at the temple is the annual temple festival (Utsavam), which spans 15 days, beginning on Kumbham 22 (typically March 6) and concluding on Meenam 6 (around March 20) in the Malayalam calendar.
The festival commences with the Kodiyettam (ceremonial flag hoisting) and ends with Koodipiriyal (symbolic conclusion of the festivities).
A major highlight of the festival is the Thitambu Nriththam, a unique ritual dance performed with the idols of Krishna and Balarama. This visually captivating performance takes place over 11 days at Pookoth Nada, about 1 km from the main temple, drawing large numbers of devotees and art lovers each year.

കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ തളിപ്പറമ്പ് നഗരത്തിന് സമീപം, ജില്ലാ കേന്ദ്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 20 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തൃച്ചംബരം ക്ഷേത്രം. സുഗന്ധവ്യഞ്ജന വ്യാപാരത്തിന് പേരുകേട്ട തളിപ്പറമ്പ് പട്ടണത്തിന് സമീപം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ ഒൻപതാമത്തെ അവതാരമായ കൃഷ്ണപരമാത്മാവിനെയാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ചെയ്‌തിരിക്കുന്നത്.
ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന കൃഷ്ണൻ കംസവധത്തിന് ശേഷം രൗദ്രഭാവത്തിൽ ഉള്ള പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ്. ദർശനം കിഴക്കോട്ട് ആയതും വിഗ്രഹത്തിന് ഏകദേശം നാലര അടിയോളം ഉയരമുണ്ടായതും പ്രത്യേകതകളാണ്. രണ്ടുകൈകളുള്ള ഈ വിഗ്രഹം ഗുരുവായൂരിലെ കൃഷ്ണവിഗ്രഹത്തേക്കാൾ അല്പം ഉയരമുള്ളതുമാണ്. തൃച്ചംബരം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വ്യത്യസ്തത, നിർമ്മാല്യദർശനം ശുഭകരമല്ല എന്ന വിശ്വാസത്തിലാണ്.
രൗദ്രഭാവമുള്ള കൃഷ്ണനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി, നട തുറക്കുന്നതിന് മുമ്പേ തിടപ്പള്ളി തുറന്ന് നിവേദ്യം ഒരുക്കുന്നു. മേൽശാന്തി നിവേദ്യം കൈയിൽ പിടിച്ചാണ് നട തുറക്കുന്നത്. അഭിഷേകം കഴിഞ്ഞതുടന്നെ നിവേദ്യം സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിൽ നിർമ്മാല്യദർശനം ശുഭകരമല്ലെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന അപൂർവ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് തൃച്ചംബരം.
ക്ഷേത്ര നടയിലെ മതിലുകളിൽ കാണാവുന്ന ശില്പകലയും ചുമർചിത്രങ്ങളും ഏറെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊക്കെയും ഏറ്റവുമധികം കലാപരമായ ചുവർച്ചിത്രങ്ങൾ കാണാവുന്ന ഒരു സ്ഥലമാണ് തൃച്ചംബരം ക്ഷേത്രം.
ഉപദേവതകളായും ഗണപതി (കന്നിമൂലയിൽ), വിഷ്വക്‌സേനൻ (ഇടത്തഭാഗത്ത്), ശിവൻ (വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ മൂലയിൽ), ശാസ്താവ് (തെക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറൻ ഭാഗത്ത്), ദുർഗ്ഗ (തളത്തിൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട മദ്ധ്യഭാഗത്ത്) എന്നിവരുടെ ആരാധനയും ഇവിടെ നടക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ചുറ്റുമായി മൂന്നു കുളങ്ങളുമുണ്ട്. ശങ്കരനാരായണ സങ്കൽപ്പത്തോടെയും ഇവിടെ ആരാധന നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഇവിടത്തെ വാർഷികോത്സവം അത്യന്തം വർണാഭവും ആകർഷകവുമായ ഒരു ആഘോഷമാണിത്. മലയാള മാസം കുംഭം 22-നാണ് ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കം, സാധാരണയായി ഇത് മാർച്ച് 6-നു പെടുന്നു. കൊടിയേറ്റ് ചടങ്ങോടെ ഉത്സവം ഭക്തിഭരിതമായി ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവം അവസാനിക്കുന്നത് മീനം 6-നു, അതായത് മാർച്ച് 20-നാണ്, കൂടിപ്പിരിയൽ ചടങ്ങിലൂടെ സമാപനം കുറിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
കുംഭം 27, 28 ദിവസങ്ങളിലാണ് മഹോത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്, മീനം 1, 2 ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ദേവോത്സവം നടക്കുന്നു.
ഇവയ്ക്കിടയിൽ പതിനൊന്ന് ദിവസത്തെ വിശിഷ്ടമായ ആചാരപരമായ ചടങ്ങുകൾ നടന്നു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഈ കാലയളവിൽ തൃച്ചമ്പ്രം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 1 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള പൂക്കോത്ത്‌നടയിൽ “തിടമ്പു നൃത്തം” എന്ന നൃത്തരൂപം നിത്യവും അരങ്ങേറുന്നു. ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെയും തളിപ്പറമ്പിൽ നിന്നും 7 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള മഴൂർ (ധർമ്മംകുളങ്ങര) ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ബലരാമന്റെയും തിടമ്പുകളുമായാണ് ഈ തിടമ്പുനൃത്തം നടക്കുന്നത്.
ഭക്തിയോടെയും ഉത്സാഹത്തോടെയും നിറഞ്ഞ ഈ ആചാരങ്ങൾ ക്ഷേത്രോത്സവത്തിന്റെ മുഖ്യ ആകർഷണങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്.ശ്രീ ശംബര മഹർഷി ഭഗവദ്‌വിലാസങ്ങൾ അനുഭവിക്കാൻ തപസ്സനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിരുന്ന വനംഭൂമിയിലാണ് തൃച്ചമ്പ്രം ക്ഷേത്രം നിലകൊള്ളുന്നതെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം പറയുന്നു. മഹർഷിയുടെ തിരുനാമമായ "ശംബര"യെ അനുസ്മരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിധത്തിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് "തിരുശംബരം" എന്ന പേര് ഉണ്ടായത്. കാലക്രമേണ ഈ പേര് "തൃച്ചമ്പ്രം" എന്നായി രൂപാന്തരപ്പെട്ടതായാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
