Urumbachan Gurusthanam, also known as the "Temple of Ants," is a unique sacred site near Thottada in Kannur, where locals revere ants as divine beings.
Despite the absence of an idol or traditional temple structure, residents light lamps daily and offer coconuts at the Gurusthanam, especially on special occasions. According to legend, the site was originally chosen for a Ganesha temple, and a carpenter had fixed a stick to mark the spot. The next day, the stick was mysteriously found half a kilometre away, and an anthill had appeared where it was originally placed.
Interpreting this as a divine sign, the locals began worshipping the ants at the anthill, and the Ganesha temple was eventually built at the new location. On the day of Karthika in the month of Vrishchikam, hundreds of ants are seen, and devotees celebrate by lighting numerous lamps. The Gurusthanam, once made of teak, has been rebuilt in cement. Devotees believe that praying and offering coconuts to the "Father Ant" can resolve ant infestations at home. Ants are also symbolically revered as representations of hard work, further enriching the spiritual significance of this remarkable place.

നാല് നൂറ്റാണ്ട് മുൻപ് ഉദയമംഗലം ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം പണിയാനായിരിക്കെ, ആദ്യം കുറ്റിയടിച്ച സ്ഥലത്ത്
ഉറുമ്പിൻ കൂട് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം കുറച്ച് അകലെയുള്ള പുതിയ സ്ഥലത്ത് പണിയുകയും, പഴയ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഉറുമ്പുകൾക്കായി ഒരു തറ നിർമ്മിച്ച് പൂജാരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഈ തറ "ഉറുമ്പച്ചൻ കോട്ടം" എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
