Belur Sree Shiva Temple is an ancient and sacred temple located at Attenganam in Kotom Belur Panchayath, Kasaragod district, about 17 km from Kanhangad.
Nestled amidst serene hills, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a significant place of worship in the region. The annual festival, celebrated during Maha Shivratri in the month of Kumbham, lasts for ten days and concludes on Shivratri.
However, the Theyyakkolam of Lord Vishnu is performed outside the temple the following day. A highlight of the festival is the grand city tour of Belurappan, a vibrant procession that carries the divine spirit through the village, passing through Attenganam, Odayanchal, Chakkittadukkam, Naikkayam, and Mukkuzhi, with poojas and offerings conducted at important shrines along the way.
Another unique ritual is the offering of tender coconut water, where 1,500 coconuts are used, based on the belief that cooling the deity with tender coconut water during the late rainy season will bring immediate rainfall. In addition to festival rituals, the temple follows a structured schedule of daily and special poojas, maintaining its rich spiritual traditions.
ബേളൂർ ശിവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കാസർഗോഡ് ജില്ലയിലെ കോടോം-ബേളൂർ പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ അട്ടേങ്ങാനത്ത്, കാഞ്ഞങ്ങാടിന് 17 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതന ശിവക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ബേളൂർ ശിവക്ഷേത്രം. മലനിരകളാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട വിശാലമായ പ്രദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ മഹാദേവനാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നതിന് മുമ്പ്, ഒരു ചെറവ സ്ത്രീ നരയെന്ന വള്ളിച്ചെടി തേടിയിറങ്ങിയതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഒരു കഥ ഇപ്പോഴും പ്രചാരത്തിൽ ഉണ്ട്.
ദാഹശമനത്തിനായി നര വെട്ടിയപ്പോൾ കത്തി കല്ലിൽ തട്ടി, അതിൽ നിന്ന് രക്തം ഒഴുകുന്നത് കണ്ടതോടെ അവൾ ഭയന്നുപോയി, നര ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച് ബോധംകെട്ട് വീണു. പിന്നീട്, ആ കല്ല് ശിവലിംഗമാണെന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ ഗോത്രവർഗ ജനങ്ങൾ, അതിനെ അവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച് ആരാധന ആരംഭിച്ചു. ഈ ആരാധനാകേന്ദ്രമാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ ബേളൂർ ശിവക്ഷേത്രമായി വളർന്നത്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ ശിവരാത്രിയോടനുബന്ധിച്ചാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. പത്തു ദിവസങ്ങൾ നീളുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവം ശിവരാത്രിയോടെ സമാപിക്കുമ്പോഴും, വിഷ്ണുമൂർത്തിയുടെ തെയ്യക്കോലം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പുറത്ത് പിറ്റെ ദിവസം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ശിവരാത്രി ദിനത്തിലെ തിടമ്പുനൃത്തം ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണമാണ്. ശബരിമല സീസണിൽ അയ്യപ്പൻവിളക്കു മഹോത്സവവും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടത്തി വരുന്നു.
മുമ്പ്, ഭക്തർ അഗ്നിപ്രവേശം നടത്തുന്ന ചടങ്ങും ഇതിനോടൊപ്പം നടന്നു വന്നിരുന്നു.
ഇളനീർ ധാര ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാന വഴിപാടാണ്. ഭക്തർ ആയിരത്തിയൊന്ന്, അഞ്ഞൂറ്റിയൊന്ന് എന്നിങ്ങനെയുള്ള എണ്ണം നിശ്ചയിച്ച് ഇളനീർ സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മഴ വൈകുമ്പോൾ ദേവനെ ഇളനീർ കൊണ്ട് തണുപ്പിച്ചാൽ ഉടനെ മഴ ലഭിക്കുമെന്ന ശക്തമായ വിശ്വാസം ഇതിനോട് ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
