Maniyoor Sree Mahadeva Temple, located in Maniyoor near Parappa in Vellarikundu Taluk, Kasaragod District, is believed to be one of the 108 Shiva temples.
According to legend, a Siddha from the Kritamuni lineage arrived in this region 3000 years ago, performed intense penance, and consecrated Lord Shiva as the main deity, along with Ganapati, Subramanian, and Sastav as sub-deities.
The place was then named "Maniyoor," meaning the land of Subrahmanya. It is said that on the thirteenth day after the temple's consecration, the sage attained samadhi and his tomb was built nearby. The presiding deity, Lord Shiva, is worshipped in the Shadadhara form. Within the Nalambalam, idols of Lord Shiva, Ganapati, Subramanian, and Goddess Parvati are enshrined, while outside the temple premises, Vanashastha, Nagayakshi, Yakshan, Kinnaran, and Manibhadra are also venerated.

കാസർഗോഡ് ജില്ലയിലെ വെള്ളരിക്കുണ്ട് താലൂക്കിൽ പരപ്പയ്ക്കടുത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രശസ്തമായ ശിവക്ഷേത്രമാണ് മാണിയൂർ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം. ഇത് 108 ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണെന്ന് വിശ്വാസം. 3000 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് കൃതമുനി വംശത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട ഒരു സിദ്ധൻ ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് എത്തിയതായും, തൻറെ സിദ്ധികൾ ആവാഹിച്ച് പ്രധാന ദേവനായ ശിവനെയും ഉപദേവന്മാരായി ഗണപതി, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ, ശാസ്താവ് എന്നിവരെയും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചുവെന്നും ഐതിഹ്യമുണ്ട്.
ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് "സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻറെ ഊര്" എന്ന അർത്ഥത്തിൽ "മാണിയൂർ" എന്ന പേര് ലഭിച്ചതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയതിനുപുറകേ പതിമൂന്നാം ദിവസം സിദ്ധൻ തൻറെ സമാധിസ്ഥലം അടുത്ത് തന്നെ നിർമിച്ച് അവിടെ സമാധിയായി എന്നും വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഷഡാധാര പ്രതിഷ്ഠയാണ് ഉള്ളത്. നാലമ്പലത്തിൽ ശിവനോടൊപ്പം ഗണപതി, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ, ശ്രീപാർവ്വതി എന്നിവരെയും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പുറത്ത് വനശാസ്താവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, യക്ഷൻ, കിന്നരൻ, മാണിഭദ്രൻ തുടങ്ങിയ ദേവതകളും വസിക്കുന്നു.
