Koyonkara Sree Payyakkal Bhagavathi Temple is an ancient and significant temple located in the Koyonkara region, approximately 1.5 km from Thrikkaripur town in the Kasaragod district.
Koyonkara Sree Payyakkal Bhagavathi Temple is maintained by the Mukaya community, traditionally engaged in fishing. According to legend, the temple was originally owned by Brahmins but was later entrusted to the Mukayas when the Brahmins vacated the place.
Koyonkara Sree Payyakkal Bhagavathi Temple's main festival begins from Meenam month’s Karthika star and continues until Pooram.
A highlight of the festival is the grand "Pattu Utsavam" (Song Festival), which takes place in different cycles and is known for its elaborate rituals. The fourth Pattu Utsavam features a unique and picturesque raft procession along the Vellap River to Idayilekadu, considered the abode of the Goddess, in the morning. Another significant event is "Marimatal," held on the afternoon of the sixth day, marking the conclusion of Kalathilari.
Near the temple lies the centuries-old "Marikalam," an important sacred site under the administration of the Payyakkal Bhagavathi Temple. Situated near the Veterinary Hospital, this site attracts hundreds of devotees who gather to witness the Marimatal ceremony.
പയ്യക്കാൽ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
കാസർഗോഡ് ജില്ലയിലെ തൃക്കരിപ്പൂർ പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം ഒന്നര കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ കൊയോങ്കര ദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതനവും ഐതിഹാസികവുമായ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രമാണ് പയ്യക്കാൽ ശ്രീ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം (കൊയോങ്കര ശ്രീ പയ്യക്കാൽ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം). ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പരിപാലിക്കുന്നത് "മുകയ" സമുദായക്കാരാണ്, മത്സ്യബന്ധനം ഉപജീവനമാക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ജാതി സമൂഹം.
ഐതിഹ്യമനുസരിച്ച്, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം യാദൃച്ഛികമായി ബ്രാഹ്മണരുടെ അധീനത്തിലായിരുന്നുവെങ്കിലും, അവർ ഇവിടം വിട്ട് പോകുമ്പോൾ, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സംരക്ഷണ ചുമതല മുകയ സമുദായക്കാരിലേക്ക് മാറ്റി നൽകിയെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം മീനമാസത്തിലെ കാർത്തിക നാളിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച് പൂരം നാളിൽ സമാപിക്കുന്ന പൂരോത്സവമാണ്. ഇതോടൊപ്പം, വേരോടെയുള്ള ആചാരപരിപാലനത്തോടും അതിപ്രസിദ്ധമായ ഉത്സവ രീതിയോടും കൂടിയ പാട്ടുത്സവം വളരെ ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
പ്രത്യേകിച്ച്, നാലാം പാട്ടുത്സവത്തിൽ ദേവിയുടെ ആരൂഢസ്ഥാനം ആയ ഇടയിലെക്കാടിലേക്ക് വെള്ളാപ്പ് പുഴയിലൂടെ ചങ്ങാട യാത്ര അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നത് അതീവ മനോഹരമായ ദൃശ്യമാണ്.
ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ അവസാന ദിവസം, കളത്തിലരി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ആറാം പാട്ടുനാൾ ഉച്ചയ്ക്കുശേഷം, മാരിമാറ്റൽ എന്ന പ്രത്യേക ചടങ്ങ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കുറച്ചകലെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ്, മൃഗാശുപത്രിയുടെ പരിസരത്ത്, പയ്യക്കാൽ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രത്തിൻറെ അധീനതയിലുള്ള നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾ പഴക്കമുള്ള മാരിക്കളം എന്ന സ്ഥലം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. മാരിമാറ്റൽ ചടങ്ങ് നടക്കുന്നത് ഇവിടെവച്ചാണ്, ഇത് സാക്ഷ്യം വഹിക്കുന്നതിനായി നൂറുകണക്കിനാളുകൾ അതിനായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു.
