Anayadi Pazhayidam Sri Narasimha Swami Temple, situated in Sooranad, serves as an important pilgrimage site in the Kollam district of Kerala. The principal deity worshipped at this temple is Narasimha.
Numerous devotees frequent this temple daily, traveling from distant locations to receive the blessings of the Lord. A significant offering made at the temple during the festival is the votive elephant offering, with hundreds of devotees presenting elephants as a votive gesture for the fulfillment of their desires, healing, and other intentions. Shiva, Bhuvaneshwari, Nagaraja, and Nagayakshi are considered Sub-deities. A large Banyan tree stands in front of the temple, while directly opposite is the Sadyalayam, accompanied by the exquisite East Gopuram and the ancient idols of Lord Vishnu and Kaliyamardanam adorning the gopurams.
The main entrance resembles a stairwell, and there is a prominent flagpole situated within the premises. The temple features a mukhamandapam and a Balikkalpura. Within the sanctum sanctorum resides Narasimhamurthy, a four-armed manifestation of Vishnu, facing eastward. To the right of the main temple, Shiva and Bhuvaneshwari Devi are enshrined, while the Naga deities are located in the northeast corner. In front of the gopuram, there exists a designated area for Maadan at the Koovalathara. Three daily pujas are conducted, specifically Vishnu Puja.
The Tantric rites are associated with Kirthamarassery. Various offerings are made, including Archana and Swayamvararchana, with the principal offering being the Elephant Ezhunnallath for its intended purpose. The Mandala period is commemorated as Chirappumahotsavam. Additionally, Maadan Puja is performed on the first day of Vruschikam, while Vijayadashami and Karkitakamasam are observed as Ramayanamasam. The festival spans a duration of ten days, concluding in the sixth month of Thiruvonanam during the month of Makara. A notable aspect of the festival is the Para Ezhunnellip. The procession featuring the elephants, known as Ezhunnallath, will traverse various locations including Tamarakulam, Shuranad, Nooranad, Thengamam, and Thotua after departing from this area.
The Utsava sacrifice on the seventh day holds particular significance. On the ninth and tenth days, the grand display of the elephants during Ezhunnallatthu takes place. The procession of Gajaveeras will commence at the temple and proceed to Sangamam Junction before returning through Wayankara Vanchimuk Anayadi Peppatti Junction and Kottapuram Junction, ultimately arriving near Anayadi Bridge. From that point, the procession will continue to Puthiyidam Temple, passing by Pazhayidam Temple. Devotees will gather on the temple grounds and along both sides of the road, eager to witness this magnificent event.
Individuals travel from distant locations to observe the spectacle of elephants gathered in the paddy fields to the south of the temple. The atmosphere will be imbued with reverence, enhanced by vibrant decorations and the rhythmic sounds produced by the percussion artists. On this day, Anayadi Temple and its vicinity will be alive with excitement. The festival will culminate with the Aarattu ceremony held at the Pallikal River. This temple is renowned in Kerala for hosting one of the largest assemblies of elephants.
ആനയടി പഴയിടം ശ്രീ നരസിംഹ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ ശൂരനാട് വടക്കിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ആനയടി പഴയിടം നരസിംഹസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം അതിപുരാതനമായ വൈഷ്ണവാരാധനാകേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. കേരളത്തിലെ അപൂർവമായ നരസിംഹക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ പ്രധാനമാണിത്. ഉഗ്രമൂർത്തിയായ നരസിംഹന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം തേടി ദൂരദേശങ്ങളിൽനിന്നും ഭക്തർ എത്തുന്നത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വിശേഷതയിലൊന്നാണ്.
മകരമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവോണനാളിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന ഉത്സവം ഭക്തജനങ്ങളിൽ ആവേശമുണർത്തുന്നു. ഈ തിരുവുത്സവത്തിലെ ആനയടി ഗജമേള പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്.
ഉത്സവത്തിനോടനുബന്ധിച്ച്, ഭക്തർ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയോട് സമർപ്പിക്കുന്ന നേർച്ചയായ ആന എഴുന്നെള്ളത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കാൻ നൂറുകണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ എത്തുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നരസിംഹസ്വാമിയാണെങ്കിലും ശിവൻ, ഭുവനേശ്വരി, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി തുടങ്ങിയ ഉപദേവതകൾക്കും സമർപ്പിച്ച കോവിലുകൾ ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മുൻവശത്ത് മനോഹരമായ കിഴക്കേ ഗോപുരവും ആൽമരവും ദർശനയോഗ്യമാണ്.
മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ് കീഴ്ത്താമരശ്ശേരി ഇല്ലത്തിന് താന്ത്രികാവകാശമുള്ള വിഷ്ണു പൂജയും അർച്ചനകളും. ആന എഴുന്നെള്ളിക്കൽ, സ്വയംവരാർച്ചന തുടങ്ങിയ വഴിപാടുകൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രധാനം.
മണ്ഡലകാലത്തെ ചിറപ്പുമഹോത്സവം, വൃശ്ചികത്തിലെ മാടൻ പൂജ, വിജയദശമി, കർക്കിടകമാസത്തെ രാമായണമാസാചരണം എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങളാണ്.
