Aryankavu Sree Dharmashastha Temple Pathanapuram Kollam

Aryankavu Sastha Temple, is dedicated to Lord Shasta (Ayyappa) in the form of a teenage deity, referred to locally as Aryankavu Ayyan or Tiruaryan. The deity is depicted in a seated position atop an elephant, with his right leg extended and his left leg folded, accompanied by his consort Pushkala on the left and Lord Shiva on the right. This unique idol was initially crafted from Anjanapashanam, a sacred stone believed to possess healing properties, and was later replaced with a panchaloha ( five-metal alloy ) idol.

Subordinate deities in the temple include Valiyakadutha, Karuppu Sami, and Karuppai Amma. A key annual ritual, Thiru Kalyanam (or Thrikalyanam), celebrates the divine wedding of Lord Shasta and Pushkala Devi, a ceremony conducted in December, coinciding with the Sabarimala pilgrimage. According to legend, Lord Shasta married Pushkaladevi of the Saurashtra community in Aryankavu, and the wedding is observed following Saurashtra traditions in a dedicated mandapa (pavilion).

Kerala customs are followed within the temple, while Tamil traditions are honored outside during the festival. Other significant events at the temple include Pandiyan Mudippu (engagement ceremony) and Kumbhabhishekham (consecration). Thiru Kalyanam festival attracts many unmarried girls, who come to the temple seeking blessings for marriage.

ആര്യങ്കാവ് ധർമ്മശാസ്താക്ഷേത്രം, പരശുരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച കേരളത്തിലെ അഞ്ച് പ്രധാന ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്ന് എന്നു കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. കൊല്ലം-തിരുമംഗലം ദേശീയ പാതയോട് ചേർന്ന് 35 അടി താഴ്ചയിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കിഴക്കോട്ടുള്ള ദർശനത്തിൽ കൗമാരസ്ഥായിയിലെ ശാസ്താവാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ളത്. പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്കുള്ള പടവുകൾ പകുതിയിറങ്ങുമ്പോൾ, ഇടത്തുവശത്ത് കറുപ്പസ്വാമിയും കറുപ്പായി അമ്മയും, അയ്യപ്പന്റെ കാവൽ ദേവതകളായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

പടവുകൾ അവസാനിക്കുന്നതിനു മുൻപായി ഏകകല്ലിൽ നിർമിച്ച തൃക്കല്യാണ മണ്ഡപം കാണാം. ഇത് ദ്രാവിഡ ശൈലിയിൽ നിർമിച്ച ഉയർന്ന തറയോടെ വിശിഷ്ടമായ പവിത്രതയുള്ള മണ്ഡപമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു സമീപമായി കല്ലടയാർ ഒഴുകുന്നു, വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദവും പ്രകൃതിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യവും ഈ സ്ഥലം ആകർഷകമാക്കുന്നു.

നാലമ്പലത്തിനുള്ളിൽ പുരുഷന്മാർക്ക് പ്രവേശനം അനുവദിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ, ശബരിമലയിലെ നിയമങ്ങളെ അനുസരിച്ച്, 10 നും 50 നും മധ്യേ പ്രായമുള്ള സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ഇവിടെയും പ്രവേശനം അനുവദിക്കുന്നില്ല. തൃക്കല്യാണം ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ എട്ടാം ദിവസമാണ് നടത്തുന്നത്, ഇത് ധനുമാസത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാന ആഘോഷം കൂടിയാണ്. കേരള-തമിഴ്‌നാട് അതിർത്തിയിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നതിനാൽ, നാലമ്പലത്തിനുള്ളിൽ കേരളീയ ആചാരങ്ങളനുസരിച്ചും, ഉത്സവത്തിനിടെ തമിഴ് ആചാരങ്ങളനുസരിച്ചുമാണ് ചടങ്ങുകൾ നടത്തുന്നത്.
