Asramam Sree Krishna Swamy Temple in Kollam is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, worshipped here as Navaneet Krishnan, or Krishna with Butter.
This form of Krishna, associated with his childhood, represents innocence and divine playfulness. In addition to the main deity, the temple complex includes shrines for other sub-deities, including Swamy Ayyappan, whose shrine is notable for featuring the iconic 18 holy steps of Sabarimala. The temple also houses Naga Devatas (serpent deities) and Navagrahas (the nine planetary deities).
One of the major festivals celebrated at this temple is the Kollam Pooram Thiru Ulsavam, which is renowned for its grandeur.
The festivities include a vibrant Ghoshayatra, a ceremonial procession featuring beautifully decorated elephants accompanied by traditional music. A highlight of the festival is the Kudamattam, a visually stunning event where colorful parasols are exchanged in a rhythmic and synchronized display atop the elephants. The festival also features Kettukazhcha, an awe-inspiring spectacle of decorated structures and effigies that showcase the rich cultural heritage of the local community.
Another important event at the temple is the Mandala Chirappu Maholsavam, celebrated during the Mandala Kalam period, which spans 41 days. This annual festival is marked by special poojas and rituals dedicated to Lord Krishna, along with cultural events and devotional music performances that uplift the spiritual atmosphere of the temple. The temple premises are beautifully adorned, and the festival culminates in a grand procession. Devotees from all over gather to seek the blessings of Lord Krishna and participate in the joyous celebrations.
ആശ്രാമം ശ്രീ കൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ അഷ്ടമുടിക്കായലിന്റെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അതിപുരാതനമായ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ആശ്രാമം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ കൈകളിൽ വെണ്ണയേന്തി നിൽക്കുന്ന നവനീത കൃഷ്ണനാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് പ്രത്യേകത നൽകുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളിലൊന്ന് എല്ലാ മാസവും രോഹിണി നാളിൽ സന്താനഗോപാലം കഥകളി അരങ്ങേറുന്നത് കൂടിയാണ്. കേരളത്തിൽ ഏകദേശം ഈ രീതിയിൽ നടത്തുന്ന ഏക ക്ഷേത്രം കൂടിയാണിത്.
ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണക്ഷേത്രത്തോടൊപ്പം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ് അയ്യപ്പക്ഷേത്രം. ശബരിമലയിലെ പതിനെട്ടു പടികൾക്കു സമാനമായ പതിനെട്ടു പടികളും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉണ്ട്, കൂടാതെ ആനപ്പുറത്ത് ഇരിക്കുന്ന അയ്യപ്പൻറെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുമുണ്ട്. ശബരിമലയിലെ തിരുവാഭരണ ഘോഷയാത്രയെ പോലെ തന്നെ ഇവിടെ തിരുവാഭരണ ഘോഷയാത്ര നടത്തപ്പെടാറുണ്ട്. ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങൾ പ്രകാരം, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ഏകദേശം ആയിരം വർഷം പഴക്കമുണ്ട്. വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമികൾ ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നിർവഹിച്ചതാണെന്നും, ഒരു വിഷ്ണുഭക്തന് സന്താന ഭാഗ്യം ലഭിക്കുന്നതിനായി ശിലാരൂപത്തിൽ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടതാണ് ആശ്രാമം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമിയെന്നുമാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം വിഷുവിനാണ്. ആഘോഷം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് ആനന്ദവല്ലീശ്വരം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വാദ്യമേളങ്ങളും തെയ്യവും പൂക്കാവടിയും മയൂരനൃത്തം തുടങ്ങിയവർ അകമ്പടിയോടെ തിരുവാഭരണ ഘോഷയാത്രയുടെ വരവോടെ ആയിരിക്കും.
1964-ൽ ആണു ഈ തിരുവാഭരണ ഘോഷയാത്ര ആരംഭിച്ചത്. അതിനു മുൻപ് ശബരിമലയിൽ മാത്രം ഇതു നടക്കാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
വിഷുദിനത്തിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം. വിഷുദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കൊല്ലം പൂരം ആശ്രാമം മൈതാനത്ത് ആഘോഷം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ പൂരത്തിൽ ജില്ലയിലെ വിവിധ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ അണിനിരക്കുകയും, ആനയൂട്ടിനും ഗജവീരന്മാരുടെ നീരാട്ടിനും ശേഷം പ്രശസ്തമായ ആൽത്തറമേളം നടക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. താമരക്കുളം മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രവും പുതിയകാവ് ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രവും തമ്മിൽ മുഖാമുഖമായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന കുടമാറ്റവും വെടിക്കെട്ടും പൂരം അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
