Ayarkkad Maha Vishnu Temple is a historic temple situated along the Ezhukon-Nedumonkavu road in Karipra, within the Kollam district.
Ayarkkad Maha Vishnu Temple, an ancient and revered site, is believed to be approximately three thousand years old. This sacred sanctuary is a source of hope for devotees seeking prosperity, comprehensive siddhi, and relief from all afflictions. The radiant presence of Sri Maha Vishnu, depicted as Chaturbahu in his full glory on Anjanashila, is not to be underestimated. According to tradition, this temple served as a refuge for the Pandavas during their exile amidst the conflict with the Kauravas in ancient times.
It is said that the site became known as Ivarkad due to the idol worshiped by the Pandavas, which later evolved into Ayarkad. Local lore suggests the existence of three stones in the vicinity, known as Karikal Para, Mundamoodu Para, and Paingavil Para, which are believed to be remnants of the oven used by the Pandavas for cooking. The idol radiates prosperity, adorned with Shankhuchakragadapadmam. It is also said that this location originally functioned as a Shaiva temple before transforming into a Vaishnava temple with the arrival of the Pandavas. The Rohini Mahotsavam, a vibrant festival, is celebrated over three days in the month of Kumbham, attracting numerous devotees from various regions of the country to witness the Dasavatara charth, which is presented to Lord Vishnu annually in the month of Thulam.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ കരീപ്രയിൽ എഴുകോൺ-നെടുമൺകാവ് റോഡിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രധാന പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കരീപ്ര തിരുഃഅയർക്കാട് മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം, കൂടാതെ ഇതിനെ അയർക്കാട് മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നും വിളിക്കാറുണ്ട്. കരീപ്രയിൽ ഐശ്വര്യ സമൃദ്ധിയും സർവ്വാഭീഷ്ട സിദ്ധിയും സർവ്വദോഷ പരിഹാരവും തേടി ഭക്തർ എത്തുന്ന മഹാഭാവ പുണ്യസ്ഥലമാണിത്. പ്രതിവിധികളോടെ നടക്കുന്ന ചൈതന്യപൂർണമായ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ഭഗവാൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയ്ക്ക് ഏകദേശം മുവായിരം വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ളതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.
അഞ്ജനശിലയിൽ ശംഖ-ചക്ര-ഗദാ-പദ്മമാലയം ചതുര്‍ബാഹുവായ ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിൻറെ വിഗ്രഹത്തിൽ നിന്ന് തേജസ്സിന്റെ പ്രഭാ വീക്ഷണം സാധാരണക്കാർക്ക് മിഴിയിലാക്കാൻ പ്രാപ്യമല്ലെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ഇതിൻറെ ചരിത്രപരമായ പ്രാധാന്യം പാണ്ഡവർ വരവോടെ വൈഷ്ണവ ഭാവം പ്രാപിച്ചതിൽ ഉണ്ട്, പഴമയിൽ ഇവർ വന്നു വിനായക പ്രസാദത്തിന് തുളസിയയില്ലേ ഈ വസതിയിൽ ഭവാൻറെ വിഗ്രഹം സ്ഥാപിച്ച് പൂജാധികങ്ങൾ നടത്തുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നും പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
പാണ്ഡവർ വിനായകങ്ങളായി ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ "ഐവർകാട്" എന്ന പേരിൽ പ്രസിദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചു, പിന്നീട് "അയർക്കാട്" ആയി പരിവർത്തനം സംഭവിച്ചു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങളിൽ കുംഭമാസത്തിൽ (ഫെബ്രുവരി-മാർച്ച്) മൂന്നുദിവസം നീണ്ടു നിൽക്കുന്ന രോഹിണി മഹോത്സവം ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. കൂടാതെ, തുലാമാസത്തിൽ (ഒക്ടോബർ-നവംബർ) ഭഗവാന്റെ ദശാവതാര രൂപങ്ങൾ സമർപ്പിച്ചു നടത്തുന്ന ദശാവതാര ചാർത്ത് ഉത്സവത്തിലും നിരവധി ഭക്തർ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നു.
