Bharanikkavu Bhadra Devi temple is situated in Iverkala, close to Shasthamkotta, within the Kollam district.
The annual festival of the temple is celebrated during Meena Masam (March – April), coinciding with the auspicious Meena Bharani day. This festival is a grand event, drawing numerous devotees to the traditional Kerala-style temple, which features a nalambalam, namaskara mandapam, chathura sreekovil, and shrines of upa devatas including Ganesh, Shasthavu, and Nagarajas.
The festival is known for its various pujas and rituals such as homam, abhishekam, and kalasham. Along with these sacred rituals, temple art forms, melam (traditional percussion), and the ceremonial procession (ezhunnallathu) add to the grandeur. A highlight of the celebration is the thidambu (sacred idol) of Devi, which is carried around the temple on a beautifully adorned elephant, accompanied by the vibrant rhythms of traditional music.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ശാസ്താംകോട്ടയിൽ നിന്നും 11.6 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഐവർകല ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ പുരാതനമായ ഭരണിക്കാവ് ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം പരമ്പരാഗത കേരള ശൈലിയിലുള്ള ഒരു ഭക്തിസ്ഥലമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നാലമ്പലം, നമസ്കാരമണ്ഡപം, ചതുരശ്രീകോവിൽ എന്നിവയോടൊപ്പം ഗണപതി, ശാസ്താവ്, നാഗരാജാവിനുള്ള ഉപദേവതാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ഉണ്ട്.
ഭദ്രകാളിയെ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയുടെ രൗദ്രഭാവമായാണ് ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. അസുരനെ നിഗ്രഹിക്കാൻ അവതരിച്ച ഈ ദേവി, അജ്ഞാനത്തെ നശിപ്പിച്ച് ജ്ഞാനം പ്രദാനം ചെയ്ത് ലോകത്തെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ദൈവിക ശക്തിയായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കാളിയെ വേദങ്ങളിൽ അഗ്നിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത് ആ ദൈവിക ശക്തിയുടെ ശക്തി വിളിച്ചോതുന്നു. ശക്തിയുടെ മകളായും കാളിയെ ദർശിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങൾ രുദ്രന്റെ തൃക്കണ്ണിലെ അഗ്നിയിൽ നിന്നുമുള്ള ഉൽഭവവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം മീന മാസത്തിലെ മീനഭരണി നാളിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവം ഹോമം, അഭിഷേകം, കലശം തുടങ്ങിയ പൂജകളും ആചാരങ്ങളുംകൊണ്ട് പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. കൂടാതെ, ക്ഷേത്ര കലാരൂപങ്ങൾ, മേളം, എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് തുടങ്ങിയവയും ദേവിയുടെ തിടമ്പേറ്റിയ എഴുന്നള്ളത്തും ഉത്സവത്തിൻറെ പ്രധാന ഭാഗങ്ങളാണ്.
