Bharanikkavu Sree Bhadrakali Devi Temple Chavara Kollam

Bharnikavu Sri Bhadrakali Temple serves as a significant place of worship for the followers in Chavara. The goddess represents the trinity of nature, embodying the essence that envelops the universe and serves as a foundation for spiritual unity. It is said that the idol's consecration took place at the residence of Mattapally Namboothiripad. One of the Akavoor Manakal Karanavars, who resided in the area, enshrined the Bhadrakali deity within the confines of the Madom.

Subsequently, the idol was installed at the base of an alstonia scholaris tree (Palamaram) in Bharnikavu by Mattapalli Namboothiripad. Over time, the Akavoor Manakkal Namboothiris relocated from the Madom near Bharnikavu, and the land on which the temple stands was transferred to local land leaders before eventually being handed over to the Travancore Devaswom Board. The Pooram festivities of Bharanikavilamma are marked by exceptional splendor. Devotees from across the nation gather at the temple to experience the Amma's Kodiyettam, Utsavabali, and Thiru Aarattu firsthand in the temple courtyard, while countless deities observe from the heavens.

The Thiru-utsavam of Bharanikavilamma highlights unforgettable experiences, vibrant visuals, and blessings that inspire attendees to return. Thotampattu is a ceremonial ritual conducted in Bhadrakali temples. This unique song serves to invoke the divine and narrate the stories of God. A notable aspect of the temple's tradition is the thottam song, which spans sixteen days. The Goddess is paraded on 'Jeevitha' exclusively for the Thotam Pattu event. Accompanied by thalapoli and musical instruments, the Namboothiris lead the 'Jeevitha' procession across the four banks to the Kumbazhakav Shree Durga Devi Temple, which is linked to the main temple, before returning to Bharanikavu after offering their prayers. Guruti is performed on the final day of Thotampattu and on Bharani day in the month of Meenam.

The Bharnikavu Thotampattu festival is celebrated with profound devotion, highlighting the significance of customs and rituals while focusing on Tantric ceremonies. The Thotampattu Mahotsavam at the Chavara Bharanikav Shri Bhadrakali Devi Temple features a unique pooja and ceremony performed by esteemed Tantrivaryans. This event aims to address the inadvertent loss of chaitanya that occurs during daily poojas, thereby enhancing spiritual energy. Another notable event at the temple is the vibrant Thiruvabharanam procession, which involves the transport of the Thiruvabharanam ornaments to be enshrined in the idols of Bharanikavilamma and the principal sub-deity, Sri Mahaganapati. The procession begins at the Chavara Srikrishna Swamy Temple and makes its way to Kumbazhakavi, passing through various locations including Chavara Bus Stand, Kotankulangara Devi Temple, Kunjalummood, Mukadamukku, Vazhailmukku, Porunnuvila Junction, and Bharnikav.

The return journey to the temple includes a display of flags, a flag rope with thalapoli, and musical accompaniment. Utsavabali is a unique offering conducted exclusively during the festival. This tantric ritual is aimed at achieving sarvaishwaryavardhana, pleasing the deities, and fulfilling specific intentions. It is a detailed ceremony of Sribhutabali that takes place during Tiruvutsavam. The ceremony, which spans approximately six hours, is thought to greatly please the goddess following the Utsavabali ritual. The experience of Devi darshan is particularly significant during this period, and all notable days are commemorated within the temple.

ചവറയിൽ നിന്ന് 2.8 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് ചവറ ഭരണിക്കാവ് ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതാണ്. തെക്കൻ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തവും പുരാതനവുമായ ഭക്തിസാന്ദ്ര ദേവീക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഇത് പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. ചവറയിലെ ഭക്തരുടെ പ്രധാന ആരാധനാലയമായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. ദേശദേവത, സർവാഭീഷ്ടവരദായിനി, ആശ്രിത വത്സല, അനാഥരക്ഷക എന്നീ വിശേഷണങ്ങളാൽ ഭക്തജനങ്ങളിൽ കരുണയും കനിവും വിതരണ ചെയ്യുന്ന അമ്മയാണ് ചവറയിലെ ഭരണിക്കാവിലമ്മ. മറ്റപ്പള്ളി നമ്പൂതിരിപ്പാടാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയത് എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അകവൂർ മനയ്ക്കൽ കാരണവന്മാരിൽ ഒരാൾ ഇവിടെ താമസിക്കുകയും, ശിലയിൽ ഭദ്രകാളിയുടെ ഉഗ്രപ്രതാപം പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ചെയ്ത്, പിന്നീട് ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി മറ്റപ്പള്ളി നമ്പൂതിരിപ്പിന് ആരാധന നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.

ഭരണിക്കാവിലമ്മയുടെ പൂരം നാളുകൾ അത്യന്തം ആസ്വാദ്യമായും ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. മുപ്പത്തിമുക്കോടി ദേവഗണങ്ങൾ മാനത്തും, ജനസഹസ്രം ക്ഷേത്രമുറ്റത്തും കാഴ്ചക്കാരായി നിൽക്കുമ്പോൾ, അമ്മയുടെ കൊടിയേറ്റ്, ഉത്സവബലി, തിരു ആറാട്ട് എന്നിവയെ നേരിൽ കാണാൻ നാടിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ക്ഷേത്ര സന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തുന്നു. ഓർമ്മയിൽ സൂക്ഷിക്കാനും വീണ്ടും എത്തിച്ചേരാനുമുള്ള അപൂർവ മുഹൂർത്തങ്ങളും, വർണ്ണാഭമായ കാഴ്ചകളും, അനുഗ്രഹാശ്ശിസ്സുകളും നൽകുന്നതാണ് ഭരണിക്കാവിലമ്മയുടെ തിരുഉത്സവം. ഭദ്രകാളിക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ നടത്തുന്ന ഒരു അനുഷ്ഠാന ചടങ്ങാണ് തോറ്റംപാട്ട്. ദൈവത്തെ ആകർഷിക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതും, ദൈവചരിത്രം വിവരിക്കുന്നതുമായ പാട്ടാണ് തോറ്റംപാട്ട്. പതിനാറ് ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ചടങ്ങ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്.

തോറ്റം പാട്ടി സംബന്ധിച്ച ഏതിരേൽപ്പിന് ദേവിയെ ജീവതയിൽ ആവാഹിച്ച് പുറത്തെഴുന്നെള്ളുന്നത് മാത്രമാണ്. താലപ്പൊലിയുടെയും വാദ്യമേളങ്ങളുടെയും അകമ്പടിയോടെ നമ്പൂതിരിമാരാൽ ജീവത എഴുന്നള്ളിച്ച് നാലുകരകളിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ച് ക്ഷേത്രവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട കുമ്പഴക്കാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തുകയും അവിടെ പൂജകൾക്കുശേഷം തിരിച്ച് ഭരണിക്കാവിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. തോറ്റം പാട്ടിന്റെ അവസാനദിവസവും മീനമാസത്തിലെ ഭരണിനാളിലും ഗുരുതി നടത്തിവരുന്നു. ഭരണിക്കാവിലമ്മയുടെയും പ്രധാന ഉപദേവനായ ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയുടെയും തിരുസ്വരൂപങ്ങളിൽ ചാർത്തുന്നതിനുള്ള തിരുവാഭരണങ്ങൾ കൈവശം വഹിക്കുന്ന വർണ്ണാഭമായ തിരുവാഭരണ ഘോഷയാത്ര, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക ചടങ്ങാണ്.

ഉത്സവകാലത്ത് മാത്രം നടത്താവുന്ന അതിവിശിഷ്ടമായ വഴിപാടാണ് ഉത്സവബലി. ദേവപ്രീതിയ്ക്കും സർവൈശ്വര്യവർദ്ധനവിനും ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചുള്ള ഒരു താന്ത്രിക ചടങ്ങാണ് ഇത്. തിരുവുത്സവസമയങ്ങളിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന ശ്രീഭൂതബലിയുടെ വിസ്താരമായ ചടങ്ങാണ് ഉത്സവബലി. ബലി തൂകാനുള്ള ഹവിസ്സുമുതൽ ഉത്സവബലിക്ക് നിഷ്ക്കർഷമുണ്ട്. ഓരോ പാർഷദനും ഉപപാർഷദന്മാർക്കും വിസ്താരമായ ബലി തൂകൽ നടക്കുന്നു. ഏകദേശം 6 മണിക്കൂർ നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ചടങ്ങിനിടയിൽ, മാതൃകല്ലിൽ ബലിതുകുമ്പോൾ ദേവി അതീവ സംതൃപ്തമായിരിക്കുമെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
