കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ചവറയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ ചവറ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണനുവേണ്ടിയാണ് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണഭഗവാന്റെ രൂപം ബാലഗോപാലനാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. പ്രാചീന കേരളത്തിലെ നാടുവാഴികളുടെ ഗ്രാമഭരണകാലത്ത്, തിരുവിതാംകൂർ രാജകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ നിർദ്ദേശപ്രകാരം, രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാര്യസ്ഥനായ ശങ്കരൻ തമ്പി ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചതായി പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. മഹാരാജാവ് നേരിട്ട് എത്തി ക്ഷേത്രദർശനം നടത്തി, നിത്യനിദാനചെലവുകൾ ക്രമീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന ചവറയിലെ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ചവറ ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഇപ്പോൾ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ ഭരണത്തിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതകൾ ശിവൻ, ഗണപതി, നാഗരാജാവ് എന്നിവരാണ്. ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷം അഷ്ടമി രോഹിണിയാണ്.
