Ennaseri Malanada Temple is a renowned temple known for its expansive temple grounds. Uniquely, the temple has no idols or shrines.
The presiding deity, or "Sankalpa Murthy," is Dussasana, a key figure from the Mahabharata. The temple's legend is tied to the epic Mahabharata, with a popular belief that Duryodhana and his companions, while searching for the Pandavas in the forest, rested here. During their stay, a few women from the Kurava community entertained them, and in return, the powerful Kaurava king blessed them with wealth. Another tale suggests that this place was the abode of Bharatamalayan, who was tasked with taming the Pandavas.
In addition to Ennaseri Malanada in Suranadu North, there are other prominent Malanada temples in Kollam district, such as Pavitreswaram Malanada Temple, Poruvahiya Peruviruthi Malanada Temple, and Kunniradathu Malanada. These temples are dedicated to various Kaurava kings, with separate shrines for their close friend Karna and their uncle Shakuni. Bhishma and Drona also have shrines. Karna's temple is located near Duryodhana’s at Peruviruthi, while Shakuni is worshipped at Mayakot near Puttur. At the base of Peruviruthi Hill, the Ketungal temple holds the authority to conduct important rituals such as "kalasham" and "Vedivazhipad."
The annual "Malakkuda" festival at Malanada is a major event, celebrated during the month of Kumbham. The festival begins with the ceremonial "Kodiyettu" (flag hoisting) on the second Sunday of Kumbham. One of the main highlights of the festival is the "Kettulsavam" at Ennassery Hills, where the "Uralan," adorned in the traditional "Kacha" attire, performs rituals with deep devotion, creating a mesmerizing sight. The "Kettukalas" (decorated structures) are a major attraction of the festival, drawing large crowds from the region.
Malanada temples are not limited to Kollam but are also spread across Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts, with many mountain ranges hosting Malanada temples. Some notable examples include Kundom Malanada in the north of Kadambanadu, Kurumbakara Malanada in Puliparamala, and Poomala Malanada to the east of Ivarkala, along with the temples in Nooranadu, Tamarakulam, and Pavithreswaram areas. These temples preserve the heritage and traditions associated with the Mahabharata and Kaurava kings.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ കുന്നത്തൂർ താലൂക്കിൽ ശൂരനാട് വടക്ക് ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിലെ ഏക കൗരവരായ ദുശ്ശാസനനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് എണ്ണശ്ശേരി മലനട ക്ഷേത്രം. വിശാലമായ ക്ഷേത്രമൈതാനത്തോടുകൂടിയ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ഇവിടെ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളോ ശ്രീകോവിലോ ഇല്ല, സങ്കല്പ മൂർത്തി ദുശ്ശാസനനാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ശ്രീകോവിലോ വിഗ്രഹമോ ഇല്ലാത്ത ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ഇതിന്റെ ഐതിഹ്യം മഹാഭാരതകഥയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. പാണ്ഡവർ ഇവിടെ വസിക്കുന്നുവെന്നു കരുതി ദുര്യോധനനും കൂട്ടരും ഇവിടെ വിശ്രമിച്ചുവെന്നാണ് പറയുന്നത്. ദാഹം അനുഭവിച്ച അവർക്ക് ഒരു കുറവസ്ത്രീ മധുചഷകം നൽകി സൽക്കരിച്ചുവെന്നും, സ്നേഹത്തോടെ കൗരവരാജാവ് 101 ഏക്കർ ഭൂമി നൽകിയത് സംബന്ധിച്ച കഥയും പ്രചാരത്തിലുണ്ട്.

പെരുവിരുത്തി മലനടയിലെ കലശം, വെടിവഴിപാടു തുടങ്ങിയവയ്ക്ക് അവകാശമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കെട്ടുങ്ങൽ. തൂക്കം, കളരിയഭ്യാസം തുടങ്ങിയവയ്ക്ക് അവകാശമുള്ളതും മാതൃസ്ഥാനം (ഗാന്ധാരീ സങ്കല്പം) ഉള്ളതുമായ ഗുരുക്കൾശ്ശേരിൽ മലനടയിൽ നിന്നാണ് ക്ഷേത്രപരികർമ്മമായ 'ഊരാളി' ഉത്സവം നടത്തുന്നത്. കൊല്ലം, പത്തനംതിട്ട, ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലകളിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ വ്യാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. എണ്ണശ്ശേരി മലനടയിലെ കെട്ടുത്സവം വളരെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ഉൽസവത്തിനിടെ ഭാരമേറിയ മലക്കുടകൾ ധരിച്ച്, കച്ചയുടുത്ത്, ഊരാളൻ തുള്ളിയിറങ്ങുമ്പോൾ കെട്ടുകാഴ്ചകൾ കാണാൻ സാധിക്കുന്നു. കെട്ടുകാളകൾ ആണ് പ്രധാനമായും ഉത്സവത്തിലെ കാഴ്ചകൾ.
