Gostalakav Devi Temple is a renowned religious site situated approximately 1.5 kilometers from Prakulam in Thrikaruwa, which lies around 12 kilometers from the Kollam district headquarters.
Sundarayakshi is the main deity of the Prakulam Gosthalakav Devi Temple and represents a folk deity concept deeply rooted in the ancient Adravidian culture of Kerala. Worshiped as a symbol of beauty and grace, Sundarayakshi is also associated with the white-robed goddess Padmavati, venerated by Buddhists and Jains. In Kollam district alone, there are more than ten Sundarayakshi temples under the Devaswom Board, with the deities maintaining a consistent form across these temples.
Sundarayakshi is revered as Paradevata (Supreme Goddess), Desadevata (Goddess of the Land), and in some places, Vidyadevata (Goddess of Knowledge), bestowing prosperity and blessings upon her devotees. Jasmine, peach blossoms, and other white flowers are her favorite offerings, symbolizing her association with beauty. She is adorned with Kalabhabhushadhis, traditional ornamental attire, and is considered the protector of women’s beauty. Offerings such as Terali, bread, Varapodi, and tender coconuts are believed to help resolve marriage-related obstacles and bring good fortune regarding children. Her favorite offering, Thirumulkazhcha, is Kurikut. It is said that women who offer items for personal grooming like mirrors, sindooram, and malas on a plate to the goddess will soon find marriage prospects. Sundarayakshi is also worshiped as a sub-deity in many temples. The temple’s annual festival, known as Karthikotsavam, is celebrated over ten days in the month of Meenam.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ തൃക്കരുവയ്ക്കടുത്ത് പ്രാക്കുളത്ത് നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 1.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ ഗോസ്തലക്കാവ് ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രാചീനവും മഹത്തായ ഭക്തിസങ്കേതവുമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ദേവത സുന്ദരയക്ഷി ആണ്, ഒരു നാടൻ ദേവതാ സങ്കൽപ്പമെന്ന നിലയിൽ പുരാതന കേരളത്തിലെ ആദിദ്രാവിഡ സംസ്കാരത്തിൻറെ ഭാഗമായുള്ള ആരാധനയിൽ സുന്ദരയക്ഷിക്ക് സുപ്രധാന സ്ഥാനം ഉണ്ട്.

വലതു കാൽ മടക്കി, കണ്ണാടിയിൽ നോക്കി ഭംഗിയായി പൊട്ടുതൊടുന്ന ദേവിയുടെ രൂപം അതീവസുന്ദരിയാണ്. സുന്ദരയക്ഷി എന്നും മനോഹരവസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ധരിച്ചും പൂക്കളാൽ അലങ്കരിച്ചും നിൽക്കുന്നതായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. മുല്ല, പിച്ചി, വെളുത്ത പുഷ്പങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ ദേവിക്ക് ഏറ്റവും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട പുഷ്പങ്ങളാണ്. ദേവി ഭക്തർക്ക് ഭയനിവാരണവും പുനർജ്ജനനവും നൽകുന്ന ദേവിയാകുന്നു.
വിശേഷപ്പെട്ട നിവേദ്യങ്ങൾ — തെരളി, അപ്പം, വറപ്പൊടി, കരിക്ക് — ഭക്തർ ദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നത് വിവാഹതടസ്സങ്ങൾ നീക്കുകയും സന്താനഭാഗ്യം ലഭിക്കാനും വിശ്വാസമുള്ള ഒരു ചടങ്ങാണ്.
ദേവിയുടെ ഇഷ്ട തിരുമുൽകാഴ്ച കുറിക്കൂട്ടാണ്, അത് സ്ത്രീകൾ ചമയത്തിനായി ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന കണ്ണാടി, ചാന്ത്, സിന്ദൂരം, കരിവള, മാല എന്നിവയെ ഒരു താലത്തിൽ ശുശ്രൂഷയോടെ ഒരുക്കി ദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നത് വിവാഹപ്രതീക്ഷ നിറവേറ്റുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കാർത്തികോത്സവം എന്ന വർഷികോത്സവം ദേവി സുന്ദരയക്ഷിയുടെ മഹിമയിൽ 10 ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ആഘോഷമാണ്, ഇത് മീനമാസത്തിൽ ആണ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്.
നാടിൻറെ നാനാഭാഗത്തുനിന്നും ജനങ്ങൾ ജാതിമത ഭേദമന്യേ ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്ത് ദേവിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം തേടുന്നു. ഉത്സവത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങളായ ചമയവിളക്ക്, പൊങ്കാല, കെട്ടുകാഴ്ച, തങ്ക അങ്കി ഘോഷയാത്ര, അന്പൊലി, സംഗീതസദസ്സ്, നാടകം, ബാലെ തുടങ്ങിയവ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ ഒരു വലിയ ആഘോഷമാനസികത നൽകുന്നു.
ഗോസ്തലക്കാവ് ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം ഭക്തർക്കും യാത്രികർക്കും ആശ്വസവും സാന്ത്വനവും പകരുന്ന ഒരു മഹത്തായ ആരാധനാലയമാണ്.
