Jatayuppara is famous for housing the largest bird statue in the world; however, few are aware of Kodanda Rama, who granted moksha to the dying Jatayu.
Jadayupara is a significant location linked to various events from the Ramayana. During their exile, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana visited this site. The narrative recounts Ravana's attempt to abduct Sita while Rama and Lakshmana were away from Panchavadi, leaving her unprotected. In a valiant effort to rescue her, the bird Jadayu confronted Ravana, but Ravana, wielding his 'Chandrahasam,' severed Jadayu's wings. According to the Puranas, the site where Jadayu fell is known as Jatayupara.
In a desperate bid to survive until Lord Rama's return, Jadayu pressed his beak against a rock, a spot that is now referred to as Kokarani. Ultimately, Jadayu passed away after reuniting with Rama. The impressive statue of Jadayu that stands today is located at the very site of his demise. The Ramayana narrates that Rama interred Jadayu with the same reverence and honor he bestowed upon his father, Dasharatha.
This site attracts numerous pilgrims who come to commemorate Sree Rama. Visitors find it auspicious to recite the Ramayana, explore Jatayumokshasthan, visit the Kodandarama temple, and see Kokarani. Many devotees from Kollam and surrounding districts make the pilgrimage here. Those who visit the Jadayu Earth Center often extend their trip to include the temple.
A recent development in the area is the Padam Padam Rampadam project, which aims to construct a staircase leading to the temple, facilitating access to Jadayu Hill.
ജടായു കോദണ്ഡരാമ ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ചടയമംഗലത്തിനു സമീപം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ജടായുപ്പാറയിലെ പ്രശസ്ത കോദണ്ഡരാമക്ഷേത്രം അതിന്റെ ദൈവികതയും ചരിത്രസമ്പന്നതയും കൊണ്ട് വേറിട്ടുനില്ക്കുന്നു. കൊല്ലം-തിരുവനന്തപുരം ദേശീയപാതയിൽ പാരിപ്പള്ളിയിൽ നിന്നും ചടയമംഗലം വഴി ഏകദേശം 1.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള ജടായുപ്പാറ എന്ന പർവതശിഖരത്തിലാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.
പുറമ്പോക്ക് ഭൂമിയിൽ പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിൽ എല്ലാ ജീവജാലങ്ങളെയും സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീരാമന്റെ കോദണ്ഡരാമ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, അതിന്റെ മഹിമയും വിശ്വാസങ്ങളുമായി ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ ആത്യന്തിക ആത്മസായൂജ്യസ്ഥാനം നൽകുന്ന ഒരു തീർത്ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമായി വളർന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ജടായു മഹാവൃത്താന്തം അഭിവന്ദനീയമായ ഒന്നാണ്. 'രാമായണ'ത്തിലെ സീതാപഹരണം തടയാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചപ്പോൾ രാവണന്റെ ആക്രമണത്തിൽ വീഴ്ച്ചയിൽ പെട്ട, തന്റെ ചിറകുകൾ പറിച്ചുമാറ്റപ്പെട്ട ശേഷം മരണപ്പെടാൻ തയ്യാറായ ജടായുവിനെ ശ്രീരാമൻ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുകയും മോക്ഷം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തതായി പുരാണങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു. ഈ സ്ഥലം 'ജടായു മോക്ഷസ്ഥാനം' എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
പുറമേ, "കൊക്കരണി" എന്ന പേര് ജടായുവിന്റെ ദിവ്യാന്തരീക്ഷത്തോടൊപ്പം ഭക്തർക്ക് സമർപ്പിതമായ പ്രപഞ്ചജലം ഒഴുകിയതായും വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
ജടായുവിന്റെ കോക്ക്കൊണ്ടുരസിയ പാറയിൽ നിന്ന് നീരൊഴുകിയതു പോലെ, ഭക്തിസ്ഫൂടമായ ഈ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഇപ്പോഴും ഒരു ദിവ്യസ്രോതസ് നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.
കഴിഞ്ഞ കാലങ്ങളിലെ രാമായണ സ്മരണകൾ ഇവിടെ 'ജടായു സ്തുതി' ആയി പാരായണം ചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നതും ഭക്തരുടെ പ്രധാന ആചാരമായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു.
ജടായുപാറയിലെ ആകാശത്തോളം ഉയർന്ന 'ജടായു ശില്പം' ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ പക്ഷി ശില്പമായി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ജടായുവിന്റെ വിഗ്രഹം, സമുദ്രനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് 1000 അടി ഉയരമുള്ളതാണ്, അത് മനോഹരമായ ദർശനത്തിനും പാരിസ്ഥിതിക സൗന്ദര്യത്തിനും എന്നും പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്.
