Kadayattu Kalari Devi Temple Anchal Kollam

This temple is especially famous for the Mudiyezhunnallathu ceremony, which takes place once every twelve years. Kalari Devi, the presiding deity, has seven sibling goddesses: Katakalamma, Malamel Bhagavan, Arakalamma, Vakkaval Devi, Pattazhi Devi, and Mannadi Bhagavathy. According to legend, three of these sisters embarked on a journey. One sister took a different path and reached the Bhagavathy Temple, while the other two continued and eventually arrived at a place called Uttuparambu. There, exhausted, they rested. A man from a prominent house called Kilithattil, who was plowing his land nearby, saw them. He invited them to his home, offered them food, and they disappeared until the following day.

The next day, a devaprashnam (astrological reading) was performed, and it was revealed that the visitors were goddesses. It was decided that a temple should be built in their honor, leading to the construction of the Kadayattu Kalari Devi Temple. A key tradition of the temple is the Mudiyezhunnallathu, which happens once in twelve years. During this ceremony, the deity Kadakkal Devi is said to visit the temple to meet her sister, Kalari Devi. The banyan tree that once provided shade to the sisters remains standing as a sacred Vada tree in the temple grounds. The temple also houses sub-deities, including Ganesha, Durga Devi, and Yogeswara, as well as shrines for Brahmarakshas, Yakshitara, and Nagaraja. Worship is held on the first day of every Malayalam month and during the Thiruvathira and Ayilyam stars.

The temple is open for worship on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 6 AM to 10 PM and from 5 PM to 7 PM. Devotees offer various rituals, such as Pongala, Annadanam, Shatrusamhararchana, Nurumpalum Nedikal, Ganapati Homam, and Archana. The main festival of Kalari Devi Temple is celebrated during Thiruvathiranal in the Malayalam month of Meenam. The highlight of this festival is the Kuthirayeduppu ceremony, where large horse effigies are paraded by local devotees. The Panayancheri and Padinjarekarakkar communities traditionally bring enormous stallion effigies as part of the celebrations. The festival concludes with a grand Kuthirayezhunnallippu procession, featuring Pookavadi, mythological scenes of gods and goddesses, and vibrant performances of Theyyam, creating a spectacular display of devotion and culture.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ പത്തനാപുരം താലുക്കിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അഞ്ചൽ പ്രദേശത്ത് കടയാറ്റ് കളരി ദേവിക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാണമാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അതിപുരാതനമായ ഒരു ദേവാലയമാണ്. പന്ത്രണ്ട് വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞ് നടക്കുന്ന മുടിയെഴുന്നള്ളത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രശസ്തി. കടയ്ക്കൽ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള മുടിയെഴുന്നള്ളത്തിൽ ആൽത്തറമൂട്, കുറ്റിക്കാട്, ചുണ്ട, ചെറുക്കുളം വഴി ഫിൽഗിരി, കോട്ടുക്കൽ ആനപുഴയ്ക്കൽ വഴി കുരിശുമുക്കിലൂടെ പടിഞ്ഞാറ്റിൻക്കര കളരി ദേവി ക്ഷേത്ര സന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു.

കളരി ദേവിക്ക് ഏഴ് സഹോദരങ്ങളുണ്ട്. കടക്കലമ്മ, മലമേൽ ഭഗവാൻ, അറക്കലമ്മ, വക്കവൽ ദേവീ, പട്ടാഴി ദേവീ, മണ്ണടി ഭഗവതി എന്നിവരാണ് ഇവർ. മുന്നിൽ സഹോദരിമാർ ഒരു യാത്ര ആരംഭിച്ചു. യാത്രയിൽ ഒരു സഹോദരി വഴിത്തെറ്റി കടക്കൽ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് പോയി, മറ്റ് രണ്ട് സഹോദരിമാർ യാത്ര തുടരുകയായിരുന്നു. അവർ ഊട്ട്പറമ്പ് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തിച്ചേർന്നു. അവിടെ അവർക്ക് തളർച്ച അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു, അതിനാൽ ഊട്ട്പറമ്പിൽ വിശ്രമിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. അവിടെ നിലം ഉഴുതുന്ന കിളിത്തട്ടിൽ എന്ന വലിയ വീട്ടിലെ ഒരു വ്യക്തി ഇവരെ കണ്ടു, അവരെ തൻറെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് ക്ഷണിച്ചു, താമസിപ്പിക്കുകയും ഭക്ഷണം നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തു. പിറ്റേ ദിവസം അവർ കാണാതായപ്പോൾ, ഒരു പുജാരിയെ വിളിച്ച് പ്രശ്നം പരിശോധിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അതിനിടെ, അത് ദേവിമാരാണെന്നും അവർക്കുവേണ്ടി ഇവിടെ ഒരു അമ്പലം സ്ഥാപിക്കണമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചു.ആ ക്ഷേത്രം കടയാറ്റ് കളരി ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. പന്ത്രണ്ട് വർഷത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ കടയ്ക്കലിൽ നീന്നും മുടിയെഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നുണ്ട്.

കടയ്ക്കൽ ദേവിയുടെ സഹോദരിയായ കളരിദേവിയെ കാണാനാണ് ഇവർ എത്തുന്നത്. തണലേകുന്ന ആലിൻ കൊമ്പ്, ആ നിലയിൽ നടുവിൽ ഒരു വടവൃക്ഷമായി ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. മീനമാസത്തിലെ തിരവാതിര നാളിലാണ് എല്ലാ വർഷവും പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. ഗണപതി, ദുർഗാദേവി, യോഗീശ്വരൻ, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സ്, യക്ഷിത്തറ, നാഗരാജാവ് എന്നിവരെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നതിന് പ്രത്യേക പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ ഉണ്ട്. മലയാള മാസത്തിലെ ഒന്നാം തിയതിയും എല്ലാ മാസങ്ങളിലും തിരുവാതിര, ആയില്യം നാളുകൾക്കായി ചൊവ്വ, വെള്ളി, ഞായർ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ രാവിലെ ആറ് മണി മുതൽ പത്ത് മണിവരെയും വൈകിട്ട് അഞ്ച് മുതൽ ഏഴ് വരെയും ക്ഷേത്രം ഭക്തർക്ക് ആരാധനയ്ക്കായി തുറക്കപ്പെടും. കടയാറ്റ് കളരി ദേവിക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നത് പൊങ്കൽ, അന്നദാനം, ശത്രുസംഹാരാർച്ചന, നൂറും പാലും നേദിക്കൽ, ഗണപതി ഹോമം, അർച്ചന എന്നിവയാണ്.

മീനമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിരനാളിൽ കളരി ദേവിക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷങ്ങളോടെ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഓരോ വർഷവും ഇവിടെ കുതിരയെടുപ്പ് പ്രധാനമായ ആഘോഷമാണ്. മൂന്നു ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഉത്സവചടങ്ങിൽ, രണ്ട് കരക്കാരുടെ എടുപ്പ് കുതിരയാണ് പ്രധാനമായ എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത്. പനയഞ്ചേരികാരുടെയും, പടിഞ്ഞാറ്റിൻകാരുടെയും വകയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള വലിയ എടുപ്പുകുതിരകൾ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണമാണ്. ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ അവസാന ദിവസമാണ് കുതിരയെടുപ്പ് നടക്കുന്നത്. ഈ ദിവസത്തിൽ ഘോഷയാത്രയോടൊപ്പം പൂക്കാവടിയും പുരാണ കഥകളിലെ ദേവീ ദേവന്മാരുടെ കാഴ്ചദൃശ്യങ്ങളും തെയ്യവും മനോഹരമായ ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ ഒരുക്കുന്നു.
