Kamakulangara Sri Mahadeva Temple is situated in Sankaramangalam, within the Chavara Panmana village of the Kollam district. This temple is devoted to Sree Mahadeva.
Kamankulangara Sri Mahadeva Temple in Kottayam, Kerala, is a revered shrine with a deep-rooted history spanning more than a century. The temple holds significance due to its connection with both Aghoramurthy and Mrityunjaya Murti, two forms of Lord Shiva. The Shiva idol worshipped outside the main temple represents Aghoramurthy, the fierce and transformative aspect of Shiva, while the one within the sanctum sanctorum is Mrityunjaya Murti, symbolizing Shiva as the conqueror of death, granting devotees longevity and moksha.
The original shrine, known as the Moolasthanam, belonged to the Kumaramangalam Illam family. An attempt to move the Shivling from this site to a newly constructed temple by Sankaran Thampi, a manager of the Travancore royal family, was unsuccessful, leading to the consecration of a new Mrityunjaya Murti in the larger temple.
