Kamukumchery Thiruvilangonappan temple is situated approximately 4 kilometers from Piravanthoor Junction along the Punalur – Pathanapuram road in Kollam. The temple is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva, represented as Kirathamoorthy, and Goddess Parvati, known as Keerta Stree.
Talavoor Kamukumcheri Thiruvilangonappan Temple serves as the abode of Thiruvilangonappan, the cherished deity revered by numerous devotees from the Talavoor region. Within the sanctum, the idols of Shiva, Parvati, and Gurusighama (the son of the hunter) are placed upon a single pedestal. In this temple, Shiva is honored as Kirathamurthy, while Goddess Parvati is venerated in her Kiratha form. Kamukumcheri Thiruvilangonappan Temple is an ancient and historically significant site where Kirathamurthy resides with his entire family. Lord Thiruvilangonappan is revered as the alleviator of the sorrows associated with birth, providing refuge to devotees who approach Thirunada with humility and sincere devotion. The temple conducts only two rituals: the Midday Puja and the Athazha Puja. Ganesha and Yakshi serve as the temple's subdeities, while Arupara-ari is the principal offering made here. The temple's primary festival is Mahashivratri, notable for its unique policy of prohibiting elephants during the celebrations. On the day of Ayilyam Nakshatra, a renowned kettukasha and procession take place, led by the temple attendants. Additionally, on the tenth day following the Nakshatra, Ezhunnallathu and Vilakku ceremonies are performed at midnight.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ പുനലൂർ പത്തനാപുരം റോഡിൽ പിറവന്തൂർ ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്നും 4 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് പ്രശസ്തമായ കമുകുംചേരി തിരുവിളങ്ങോനപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രം. തലവൂർ പ്രദേശത്തെ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തരുടെ ആരാധനാ മൂർത്തിയും ഇഷ്ടദേവനുമായ തിരുവിളങ്ങോനപ്പൻ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വാസം ചെയ്യുന്നു. പുണ്യ നദിയായ കല്ലടയാറിന്റെ തീരത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്.
ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ ശിവൻ, പാർവ്വതി, ഗുരുശിഘാമൻ (വേട്ടക്കൊരുമകൻ) എന്നിവരെ ഒരേ പീഠത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന ശിവൻ കിരാതമൂർത്തിയിലും, കിരാത വേഷം ധരിച്ച പാർവതി ദേവിയുമാണ്.
കമുകുംചേരി തിരുവിളങ്ങോനപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രം, പത്നീപുത്ര സമേതമായ കിരാതമൂർത്തിയുടെ ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധവും പുരാതനവുമായ മഹാക്ഷേത്രമാണ്.
സങ്കടങ്ങൾ നീക്കുന്നതിനായി ആകാംക്ഷയോടെ പ്രാർത്ഥനയും ഭക്തിയുമായി തിരുനടയിൽ എത്തുന്ന ഭക്തൻ, അഭയമരുളുന്ന ജന്മദു:ഖവിനാശകനായ ഭഗവാനായ തിരുവിളങ്ങോനപ്പനിൽ ആത്മസമർപ്പണം നടത്തുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉച്ചപൂജയും അത്താഴപൂജയും മാത്രമാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. ഗണപതിയും യക്ഷിയുമാണ് ഇവിടെ ഉപദേവതകൾ. ആറുപാറ അരി എന്നത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാട് ആണ്. മഹാശിവരാത്രി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷമാണ്. ഉത്സവത്തിനിടെ ആനകളെ അനുവദിക്കാത്ത പ്രത്യേകതയും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ഉണ്ട്. ആയില്യം നക്ഷത്ര ദിനത്തിൽ പ്രശസ്തമായ കെട്ടുകാഴ്ചയും ക്ഷേത്രസന്നിധിയുടെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ ഘോഷയാത്രയും നടക്കും. ആയില്യം നക്ഷത്രദിവസം അർദ്ധരാത്രിയിൽ എഴുന്നള്ളത്തും വിളക്കും നടക്കുന്നു. തിരുസന്നിധിയിൽ എല്ലാ വർഷവും ശ്രീമദ് ഭാഗവത സപതാഹയജ്ഞം ഭക്തി നിറഞ്ഞതായാണ് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്.
