Kattil Mekkathil Temple, located along the coast of the Arabian Sea in the village of Ponmana, Chavara, serves as a significant pilgrimage site devoted to Goddess Sree Bhadra Kaali.
The temple is distinguished by its unique tradition of attaching bells to the banyan tree located within its premises. It is believed that wishes are granted once the bells are tied after devotees circumambulate the sanctum sanctorum seven times. This practice, illustrated by the sight of numerous bells adorning the tree, embodies the deep devotion and steadfast faith of the worshippers who seek divine blessings and spiritual comfort at this hallowed location. At Kattil Mekkathil Temple, devotees engage in the sacred ritual of Pongala daily, expressing their sincere devotion through this time-honored act of reverence.
This daily practice of Pongala signifies the unceasing flow of devotion and blessings at this esteemed pilgrimage site, creating a spiritual environment where devotees discover solace and divine grace in their everyday lives. Throughout the 12-day bhajan, devotees participate in singing devotional songs, while another cherished offering includes the construction of a hut in front of Kattilamma Temple for an overnight bhajanam. The 12 Vilakku Utsavam, a significant festival, attracts large gatherings, and special pujas and rituals are conducted on Fridays at the temple, which remains accessible throughout the week. Each year during the celebrations, the flag is ceremoniously transported from Champakkulam.

കാട്ടിൽ മേക്കതിൽ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ചവറയ്ക്ക് സമീപം പന്മനയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രശസ്ത ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. മണികെട്ടമ്പലം എന്ന പേരിലും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ജില്ലാ ആസ്ഥാനത്തുനിന്ന് വടക്കു-പടിഞ്ഞാറ് കിഴക്കുള്ള ഭാഗത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ചവറ ശങ്കരമംഗലം/ചവറ പോലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷൻ സ്റ്റോപ്പിൽ ഇറങ്ങി ഓട്ടോയിൽ കോവിൽത്തോട്ടം റോഡിലൂടെ മൂന്നു കിലോമീറ്റർ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ കൊട്ടാരത്തിൻ കടവിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം. അവിടെ നിന്ന് ജങ്കാർ മാർഗ്ഗം വഴി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം.
ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി, കാട്ടിലമ്മ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ദേവി, ദാരികനെ വധിച്ച ഉഗ്രഭാവത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതയാണ്. കായലിനും കടലിനും മധ്യേ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അപൂർവ്വ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് കാട്ടിൽ മേക്കതിൽ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഒരു വശത്ത് അറബിക്കടലും, മറുവശത്ത് ടി.എസ്. കനാലും (തിരുവനന്തപുരം-ഷൊർണുർ കനാൽ) സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രഭരണസമിതിയുടെ നിർദ്ദേശപ്രകാരം പ്രത്യേക ജങ്കാറിലൂടെ ഇവിടെ എത്തിച്ചേരാം. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു സമീപമുള്ള ആൽമരത്തിൽ, പ്രത്യേകമായി പൂജിച്ച മണി നാമജപത്തോടെ പ്രദക്ഷിണം ചെയ്യുന്നത് ഇവിടെ പ്രചാരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു ആചാരമാണ്. മനസ്സിൽ ന്യായമായ എന്തെങ്കിലും ആഗ്രഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് മണി കെട്ടുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ, അത് സാധ്യമാകുമെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. മഹാഗണപതി, ദുർഗ്ഗ തുടങ്ങിയ ഉപദേവതകൾ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സാന്നിധ്യമുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആചാരങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് 'മണികെട്ടൽ'. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രത്യേകമായി പൂജിച്ച മണി, ഇവിടെ ഉള്ള പേരാലിൽ കെട്ടി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചാൽ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ സഫലമാകുമെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
മരത്തെ ചുറ്റി ഏഴു തവണ ദേവീനാമ ജപം ചെയ്ത് പ്രദക്ഷിണം ചെയ്ത ശേഷം മാത്രമാണ് മണികെട്ടുന്നത്. ഇങ്ങനെ മൂന്നു തവണ എത്തി മണികെട്ടേണ്ടതായാണ് വിശ്വാസം. ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ വ്രത ശുദ്ധിയോടെ ഇവിടെ എത്തി അവരുടെ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ പൂർത്തീകരിക്കുന്നു. എല്ലാവർഷവും വൃശ്ചിക മാസത്തിൽ (നവംബർ) ഇവിടെ ഒരു ഉത്സവം നടക്കുന്നു. പന്ത്രണ്ടു ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന വൃശ്ചികോത്സവത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കാൻ തമിഴ്നാട്, കന്യാകുമാരി തുടങ്ങിയ സ്ഥലങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള നിരവധി ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നു. ഉത്സവകാലത്ത് ഭക്തർക്കായി ക്ഷേത്രപരിസരത്ത് ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് കുടിലുകൾ നിർമ്മിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് തോറ്റംപാട്ട്, പ്രത്യേക പൂജകൾ, അന്നദാനം, തങ്കയങ്കി ഘോഷയാത്ര, വൃശ്ചികപ്പൊങ്കൽ, തിരുമുടി ആറാട്ട് എന്നിവ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
