Kidangayil Devi Temple, located in the Talavoor region of Kollam district, is an ancient temple of great historical significance. Dedicated to Goddess Durga, the temple is revered for its deep cultural and spiritual importance in the area.
Kidangayil Devi is a key participant in the historic Thalavoor Pooram, a grand festival celebrated on the Pooram day in the month of Kumbham. On the night of Thalavoor Pooram Thirunnal, after the athazha pooja at Mylom temple, the Melshanti quickly closes the shrine and heads to the Thalavoor temple to invoke the presence of the Goddess. In the presence of Mylom Devi, Thalavoor Devi mounts an elephant and proceeds to Bhoothathanmukal, the main temple, accompanied by demons. It is believed that at this moment, Kidangayil Bhagavathi, regarded as the younger sister, joins with preparations. According to legend, though the goddess was enshrined thrice to the east, she now faces north, symbolically acknowledging her elder sisters, Thalavoor and Mylom Bhagavatis.

കിടങ്ങയിൽ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം, കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ തലവൂർ ദേശത്തിലെ ഒരു ചരിത്രപരമായ പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കിടങ്ങയിൽ ശ്രീ ദുർഗാദേവി, ശക്തമായ ദേവിമാരിൽ ഒരാളായും, തലവൂർ ദേവിയുടെ അനുജത്തിയുമാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ദക്ഷിണ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ദുർഗാ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് തലവൂർ ശ്രീ ദുർഗാ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം (തൃക്കൊന്നമർക്കോട്). ഒരു നേരിൽ നോക്കുമ്പോൾ, മൂന്ന് ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ ഒരേ വരയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നതായി കാണാം: തലവൂർ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം, മൈലം തൃക്കൊന്നമർക്കാട്, കിടങ്ങയിൽ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. തലവൂർ പ്രദേശത്തിൻറെ സമീപ പ്രദേശങ്ങളായ കുന്നിക്കോട്, മൈലം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. പ്രാദേശികരുടെ വിശ്വാസപ്രകാരം, ഇവർ തമ്മിൽ സഹോദരീഭാവത്തിലാണ്.
തലവൂർ പൂരത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പങ്കാളിയായ കിടങ്ങയിൽ ദേവി, ചരിത്രപരമായ ഒരു പ്രതീകമാണ്. കുംഭ മാസത്തിലെ പൂരം നാളിൽ ഈ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. തലവൂർ പൂരം തിരുന്നാൾ, രാത്രി മൈലം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ അത്താഴപൂജ കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം, മേൽശാന്തി നടയടച്ച് ദേവിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം ആകർഷിച്ച്, തലവൂരിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നു. രാത്രി എഴുന്നെള്ളത്തിന്, ദേവിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ, മൈലം ദേവിയുടെ കൂടെ ആനപ്പുറത്ത് ഏറി, ഭൂതത്താൻ എന്ന മൂലക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക്, ഭൂതഗണങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം തലവൂർ ദേവി യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ സമയത്ത്, കിടങ്ങയിൽ ഭഗവതി അനുജത്തി ഭാവത്തിൽ ഒരുക്കങ്ങൾ നടത്തുന്നതായി വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ജ്യേഷ്ഠത്തി ഭാവത്തിൽ നിലകൊള്ളുന്ന തലവൂർ, മൈലം ഭഗവതികൾക്ക് പുറം തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്ന വിഷമം കാരണം, കിഴക്കോട്ട് മൂന്ന് തവണ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തിയിട്ടും, കിടങ്ങയിൽ ദേവി സഹോദരിമാരെ നോക്കി വടക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായി ഇരുന്നു എന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം.
