Kololipoika Devi Temple is situated in the village of Thevalappuram, within the Kottarakkara taluk of the Kollam district. This temple is devoted to Vanadurga Devi.
Vanadurga is regarded as Bhagavathy, who emerged as the object of veneration among the Dravidians, early forest inhabitants, later embraced by the Shakteis and ultimately by Hindus. She is believed to embody Adiparashakti, residing within the forest. It is thought that devotion to Bhagwati alleviates suffering and brings forth prosperity. The blessings of the Goddess are said to dispel severe planetary afflictions, adversarial influences, and even grave Bhutha Pretha Kritya doshas.
Vana Durga represents a facet of Sri Parvati. In her quest to unite with Lord Shiva as her consort, Parvati engaged in rigorous penance amidst the elements of nature—enduring sun, rain, and snow—while invoking the five fundamental elements: sky, air, fire, water, and earth. Consequently, Parashakti is revered in the form of Vanadurga. In numerous Vanadurga temples, the sanctum sanctorum of Bhagwati is open to the elements, allowing sunlight, rain, and snow to directly reach the shrine. Such deities can also be found in certain Kavus. Historically, Vanadurga was worshiped as part of Urvaratapuja and was also regarded as a representation of Mother Nature.
കൊലോലിപോയ്ക ശ്രീ വനദുർഗ്ഗാദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ കൊട്ടാരക്കര താലൂക്കിലെ തേവലപ്പുറം ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കൊലോലിപോയ്ക ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം വനദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ആദികാലത്ത് ദ്രാവിഡ വനംവാസികൾ, പിന്നീട് ശാക്തേയർ, പിന്നീട് ഹൈന്ദവർ എന്നിവരുടെ ആരാധനാ മൂർത്തിയായ ഭഗവതിയാണ് വനദുർഗ്ഗ. ഈ ഭഗവതി ആദിപരാശക്തിയുടെ പ്രതീകമായാണ് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഭഗവതിയെ ഭജിച്ചാൽ ദുഃഖങ്ങൾ അകന്നുപോകുകയും നന്മകൾ വരുകയും ചെയ്യുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. കഠിനമായ ഗ്രഹദോഷങ്ങൾ, ശത്രുദോഷങ്ങൾ, ഭീകരമായ ഭൂതപ്രേത ദോഷങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയും ദേവിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹത്താൽ അകലുന്നതാണ്.
ശ്രീ പാർവ്വതിയുടെ ഒരു രൂപമാണ് വനദുർഗ്ഗ. പരമശിവനെ ഭർത്താവായി നേടാൻ പാർവതീദേവി വെയിലും മഴയും മഞ്ഞും ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി വനത്തിൽ തപസ്സു നടത്തി, കൂടാതെ പഞ്ചഭൂതങ്ങളെ (ആകാശം, വായു, അഗ്നി, ജലം, പൃഥ്വി) തന്റെ ആഹ്വാനത്തിലൂടെ ആകർഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതിനാൽ, പരാശക്തിയെ വനദുർഗ്ഗ രൂപത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. പല വനദുർഗ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ഭഗവതിയുടെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് മേൽക്കൂര ഇല്ല. പ്രകൃതിയുടെ വിവിധ പ്രതിഭാസങ്ങൾ നേരിട്ട് പ്രതിഷ്ഠയിലേക്ക് എത്താൻ വേണ്ടി ആണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ചില കാവുകളിലും ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രാചീന കാലത്ത് ഊർവ്വരതാപൂജയുടെ ഭാഗമായും വനദുർഗയെ ആരാധിച്ചിരുന്നു. പ്രകൃതീമാതാവായി വനദുർഗയെ കണക്കാക്കിയിരുന്നു.
