Anchalummudu, situated in the Kollam district, is a village renowned for its cultural significance. It is home to the revered ancient Kuppana Sri Velayudha Mangalam temple, often referred to as the Southern Palani.
The temple is located on the western side of Anchalummudu Junction. This shrine is dedicated to Subrahmanya Swamy, with the 'vel' having been installed here by Sri Narayana Gurudev. Kuppana Sri Velayudha Mangalam Temple is recognized as one of the prominent Subrahmanya temples in the Kollam district. The temple's annual festival takes place during the month of Makaram, specifically the Thaipooyam Kavadi.
This festival culminates in the renowned Kavadi celebration, characterized by a caparisoned elephant, temple music, and a grand procession. Thaipooyam and Shashti are regarded as the most significant days for the temple. Devotees observe a fast to seek the grace of Subrahmanya, with Skanda Shashti being the key observance on the Shashti day in the month of Thulam. In various regions, the Shashti Vrutham is a six-day fast that commences with 'Prathama.' It is traditionally believed that on this day, Subrahmanya vanquished the demon Shurapadmasura, which is why Shashti in the month of Libra holds particular significance and is celebrated as Skandashashti. Special pujas are conducted in numerous Subrahmanya temples across Kerala. Observing the Shashti Vrutham is thought to be beneficial for having children who are long-lived, knowledgeable, and virtuous, as well as for fostering affection among children, ensuring their merit, and aiding in the treatment of ailments.
കുപ്പണ ശ്രീ വേലായുധമംഗലം ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ അഞ്ചാലുംമൂട് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് തെക്കൻ പഴനിയെന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പുരാതന കുപ്പണ ശ്രീ വേലായുധ മംഗലം ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വേൽ ശ്രീ നാരായണ ഗുരുദേവനാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചത്. മകരമാസത്തിലെ തൈപ്പൂയ മഹോത്സവം പ്രശസ്തമായ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. ഈ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കാൻ നാടിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള അനേകം ആളുകൾ, ജാതി-മത ഭേദമന്യേ, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു. പ്രശസ്തമായ കാവടി ഉത്സവം വാർഷിക ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ സമാപനത്തോടെയാണ്.
കാവടി ഉത്സവം ആനയെഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പും ക്ഷേത്ര സംഗീതവും ഘോഷയാത്രയും ചേർന്ന് അതിന്റെ മഹത്ത്വം വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.തൈപ്പൂയം, ഷഷ്ടി എന്നിവ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാനമായ വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങളാണ്. ഈ വ്രതം സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യനോടുള്ള പ്രീതിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചാണ് നടത്തുന്നത്. സന്താനലബ്ധിക്ക് ഷഷ്ഠിവ്രതം പ്രത്യേക പ്രാധാന്യമർഹിക്കുന്നു. സ്കന്ദ ഷഷ്ഠി എന്നത് അതിൽ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒരു ദിനമാണ്, ഇത് തുലാമാസത്തിലെ ഷഷ്ഠി ദിനത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ആറുദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഒരു വ്രതമായി ഷഷ്ഠി വ്രതം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ ശൂരപദ്മാസുരനെ വധിച്ച ദിവസം എന്ന വിശ്വാസം ഈ ദിനവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അതിനാൽ, തുലാമാസത്തിലെ ഷഷ്ഠിക്ക് പ്രത്യേക പ്രാധാന്യം ലഭിക്കുകയും, സ്കന്ദഷഷ്ഠിയായി ആചരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ പല സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലും ഈ ദിനത്തിൽ പ്രത്യേക പൂജകൾ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഷഷ്ഠി വ്രതം അനുസരിച്ച് ദീർഘായുസ്സും, വിദ്യയും, സത്ഗുണങ്ങളുള്ള സന്താനങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാവാനും,കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾക്ക് ശ്രേയസ്സുണ്ടാകാനും, രോഗങ്ങൾ മാറാനും നല്ലതാണെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
