Kollam Rameswaram Mahadeva Temple is situated in Kollam City, within the Kollam district of Kerala, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Rameswara, who is depicted facing west.
Kollam Rameswaram Mahadeva Temple is believed to be one of the 108 Shiva temples of Kerala, consecrated by sage Parasurama and dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is considered one of the two Rameswaram temples mentioned in the 108 Shivalaya Sothram, with the other being the Amaravila Rameswaram Sri Mahadeva Temple, located in the village of Amaravila in Thiruvananthapuram District.
The temple features two small gopurams (towers) on its west and north sides, and a copper-covered flag mast stands in front of the Balikkal pura on the western side. The main sanctum sanctorum is rectangular and adorned with intricate stone and wood carvings, which are characteristic of traditional Kerala temple architecture. The Valiyambalam (main hall) and Balikkal pura follow the typical Kerala-Dravidian style. The temple also houses several sub-deities, including Ganesha, Subrahmanya, Dharma Sastha, the Snake Goddess (Naga), Rakshas, Navagrahas, and Lord Krishna, all of whom are worshiped within the temple complex.
ശ്രീ മേജർ രാമേശ്വരം മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കേരളത്തിലെ കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ, കൊല്ലം നഗരത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കൊല്ലം രാമേശ്വരം ക്ഷേത്രം. 108 ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ പറയുന്ന കൊല്ലത്തെ ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഇത്, പ്രധാനമായും ശിവഭക്തരുടെ തീർഥാടനകേന്ദ്രമാണ്. കൊല്ലത്തെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രശസ്ത ശിവക്ഷേത്രമായ ആനന്ദവല്ലീശ്വരം ക്ഷേത്രം ഈ പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
വിശ്വാസപ്രകാരം, കൊല്ലം രാമേശ്വരം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശിവലിംഗം പരശുരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ചെയ്‌തതാണെന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.
കേരളത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ സംഭാവന നൽകിയ ശിലാലിഖിതങ്ങളാൽ പ്രസിദ്ധമാകുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം കൂടിയാണിത്.
പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ദർശനമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, കേരള തനിമയോടെ നിർമ്മിച്ച ശ്രീകോവിൽ, നമസ്കാരമണ്ഡപം, നാലമ്പലം എന്നിവയാൽ സമൃദ്ധമാണ്. പ്രധാന കവാടം പടിഞ്ഞാറു വശത്ത് ഗോപുരം സവിശേഷമായി പണിതിരിക്കുന്നു, ദർശനത്തിന് എത്തുന്ന ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ആകർഷകമായ ഒരു ദൃശ്യമാണ് ഇത്.
ഇവിടുത്തെ പ്രധാന പൂജയാണ് രുദ്രാഭിഷേകം.
രാമേശ്വരം ക്ഷേത്രം ശിലാലിഖിതങ്ങളാൽ സമ്പന്നമാണ്. വട്ടെഴുത്ത് ലിപിയിൽ കൊത്തിയിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ശിലാലിഖിതങ്ങൾ കണക്കാക്കിയാൽ അവയുടെ ഭാഷ തമിഴ് ആണ്. ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ തെക്കുവശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കരിങ്കൽ സ്തംഭത്തിൽ കൊത്തിയിട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന രേഖകൾ വളരെ പുരാതനവും ശ്രദ്ധേയവുമാണ്.
