Sree Sankara Narayana Murthy Temple is located approximately 3.5 kilometers from the town and is dedicated to Lord Shankaranarayan.
This temple is dedicated to Lord Shankaranarayan. The associated deities include Shri Durga Devi, Shri Ganapati, and the Naga Gods. Lord Shankara Narayan, also known as Harihara in the Ardha Narishvara form, is depicted as a murti with the right half representing Vishnu and the left half representing Shiva. This divine figure is portrayed with four arms, holding a conch, a chakra, a trident, and displaying the abhaya mudra. Shankaracharya significantly contributed to the popularization of this deity through the teachings of Advaita Siddhanta. According to this philosophical tradition, Shankara Narayana or Harihara embodies the concept of a unified God, merging the essences of Shiva and Vishnu. This notion was introduced to reconcile the differences between Shaiva and Vaishnava sects regarding idol worship.
Additionally, this concept is reflected in the figure of Indilayappan in Kerala. Devotees hold the belief that the blessings of both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu can be harmoniously received through the Sankara Narayana Pooja. The temple is situated along the shores of Ashtamudi Lake. It serves as a site for Balitharppanam and Tilahomam (Tilahavanam) rituals for the deceased, underscoring the significance of this location. Daily, devotees visit to conduct various ceremonies. The observance of Karkidakavavu holds particular importance here. An annual nine-day festival occurs in the month of Makaram, referred to as Uthram Pooram. This festival commences with Trikodiyettu and concludes with Kodiyirakkam.

കൊല്ലം പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കടവൂർക്ക് പോകുന്ന വഴി, അഷ്ടമുടി കായലിന്റെ തീരത്തുള്ള മങ്ങാട്ടാണ് പ്രശസ്തമായ ശ്രീ ശങ്കരനാരായണ മൂർത്തി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഭഗവാൻ ശങ്കരനാരായണനായി സമർപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവി, ശ്രീ ഗണപതി, നാഗദേവതകൾ എന്നിവരാണ് ഉപദേവതകൾ.
ശ്രീ ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ (അഥവാ ഹരിഹരൻ) എന്ന ദേവൻ ശിവന്റെയും വിഷ്ണുവിന്റെയും സംയുക്തമൂർത്തി എന്ന നിലയിൽ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. വലത് ഭാഗം വിഷ്ണുവിനെയും ഇടത് ഭാഗം ശിവനെയും പ്രതിനിധാനം ചെയ്യുന്ന അർദ്ധനാരീശ്വര രൂപത്തിൽ ഭഗവാൻ ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ നാലു കൈകളിൽ ശംഖ്, ചക്രം, ത്രിശൂലം, അഭയമുദ്ര എന്നിവയുമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലും പുറത്തും നിരവധി ശങ്കരനാരായണ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. അദ്വൈത സിദ്ധാന്തത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ, ശങ്കരാചാര്യൻ ഭഗവാൻറെ ഈ രൂപത്തിന് ജനകീയത നൽകുന്നതിൽ നിർണായകമായ പങ്ക് വഹിക്കുന്നു.
വിശ്വാസപ്രമാണങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച്, ശിവനും വിഷ്ണുവും ചേർന്ന സങ്കരരൂപമായ ഈശ്വര സങ്കൽപ്പമാണ് ശങ്കരനാരായണൻ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഹരിഹരൻ. ശങ്കരനാരായണപൂജയിലൂടെ ശിവനും വിഷ്ണുവും ഒരുമിച്ച് അനുഗ്രഹം നൽകുമെന്ന് ഭക്തർ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. അഷ്ടമുടി കായലിന്റെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, മരിച്ചവർക്കുവേണ്ടി ബലിയും തിലഹോമം (തിലഹവനം) നടത്തുന്നത് പ്രധാനമാണ്. ഓരോ ദിവസവും ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ എത്തി കർമ്മങ്ങൾ നിർവഹിക്കുന്നു. കർക്കിടകവാവിന് ഇവിടെ പ്രത്യേക പ്രാധാന്യമുണ്ട്. മകരമാസത്തിൽ, ഒമ്പത് ദിവസത്തെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. തൃക്കൊടിയേറ്റോടെ ആരംഭിച്ച്, മകരത്തിലെ പൂരം നാൾ കൊടിയിറക്കത്തോടെ സമാപിക്കുന്നു.
