Maraikkod Sree Indalayappan Temple, situated in the Maraikkod area of Kollam district, is an ancient place of worship. It is regarded as one of the oldest temples, with a history spanning more than a millennium.
This temple is situated in Marayikod within the Uliyanad Ward of Vettikkavala Panchayat. Both Shaiva and Vaishnava deities are enshrined in the respective temples. To the north, there is a temple dedicated to Shiva and Parvati, while a temple dedicated to Vishnu is located to the south. Additionally, there are idols representing Mahaganapati, Brahmarakshas, Nagaraja-Nagayakshi, and Yakshi. All devotees are welcome to visit the temple, and even those who do not practice a religion regard the temple grounds as a sacred space.
The management of the temple is overseen by the Maraikkod Indalayappan Devasthanam Management Committee. There are two significant temples: the Sri Indalayapa Temple dedicated to Shiva and the Maha Vishnu Temple. The historical background of these temples remains unknown to contemporary individuals, as they were destroyed long ago. It is believed that the British, in their pursuit of Veluthampi Dalava approximately two centuries ago, were responsible for this destruction. Among the ruins, the Maha Vishnu Temple was reconstructed in the 1980s, where Lord Vishnu is revered as Sri Indalayappan.
After about two decades, a devaprashanam was conducted, which confirmed that Sri Indalayappan is indeed Sri Maha Vishnu, rather than Sri Paramashiva. According to Vastushastra, both temples hold equal significance in this location. There are two temples located in this area: the Indalayappan (Paramashivan) temple to the north and the Maha Vishnu temple to the south. The Shiva temple is architecturally designed as a circular mahasree kovil.
In the Shiva Temple, a Shivlinga deity is positioned facing east, while a deity of Goddess Parvati is situated on the west terrace within the same sanctum. Additionally, Shri Mahaganapati is enshrined at one corner of the temple.
The Naga Gods and Brahmarakshas are positioned at the Kannimula of Lord Ganesha. In the Vishnu Temple, the deity of Lord Vishnu is depicted holding a mace in his left hand, a wheel in his left hand, and a conch shell in his right hand. The Yakshi has relocated to the southeast of the Vishnu temple. The Thiruvutsavam festival is celebrated for five days at the Indalayappan temple in Maraikkod, concluding on the Rohini day in the Meda month (April/May).

മാരായിക്കോട് ശ്രീ ഇണ്ടിളയപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ മാരായിക്കോട് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ആയിരം വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുകളിലുള്ള ചരിത്രം ഉള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, വെട്ടിക്കവല പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ ഉളിയനാട് വാർഡിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ശൈവ-വൈഷ്ണവ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു, വടക്കേ ഭാഗത്ത് ശിവ-പാർവതി ക്ഷേത്രവും, തെക്കേ ഭാഗത്ത് വിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. കൂടാതെ, മഹാഗണപതി, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്, നാഗരാജാവ്-നാഗയക്ഷി, യക്ഷി എന്നിവയുടെ ആരാധനാമൂർത്തികളും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്.
എല്ലാ വിശ്വാസികൾക്കും ക്ഷേത്രദർശനം അനുവദനീയമാണ്, അന്യമതസ്ഥർക്ക് ക്ഷേത്രം അവരുടെ ആരാധനാലയം പോലെ അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു. മാരായിക്കോട് ഇണ്ടിളയപ്പൻ ദേവസ്ഥാനം ക്ഷേത്രകാര്യങ്ങൾ നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്ന ഭരണസമിതിയുണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ രണ്ട് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു: വടക്കേ ഭാഗത്ത് ഇണ്ടിളയപ്പൻ (പരമശിവൻ) ക്ഷേത്രവും തെക്കേ ഭാഗത്ത് മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രവും. ശിവ ക്ഷേത്രം വൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള മഹാശ്രീകോവിലായി രൂപീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കിഴക്കോട്ടു ദർശനം നൽകുന്ന ശിവലിംഗ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയോടൊപ്പം, പടിഞ്ഞാറേ സോപാനത്തിൽ പാർവതീദേവിയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
കോവിലിന്റെ കന്നിമൂലത്തിൽ ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഗണപതിയുടെ കന്നിമൂലത്തിൽ നാഗദൈവങ്ങളും ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസും താമസിക്കുന്നു. വിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, മുന്നിലെ ഇടതുകയ്യിൽ ഗദ, പുറകിലെ ഇടതുകയ്യിൽ ചക്രം, വലതുകയ്യിൽ ശംഖും ധരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന വിഷ്ണു പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുണ്ട്. വിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ തെക്കുകിഴക്കു യക്ഷി താമസിക്കുന്നു. മാരായിക്കോട് ഇണ്ടിളയപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ തിരുവുത്സവം അഞ്ചു ദിവസങ്ങളോളം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
