Mathira Pedika Devi Temple, situated in Mathira Kadakkal, is dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga.
The temple is managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The renowned Mathira Thiruvathira Mahotsavam takes place at this temple. This annual festival, which spans ten days, is celebrated during the month of Makaram. The Thiruvathira festival is recognized as the national festival of Pangodu land. Mathira Thiruvathira serves to evoke the historical memories of the region and invigorates the spirit of the Mathira village.
The Mathira Thiruvathira Mahotsavam, celebrated at the Kadaikkal Mathira Devi Temple, is among the most prominent festivals in Kerala. The festivities commence with Trikodiyettu, followed by Pallivetta on the ninth day, and conclude with Aarattu on the tenth day, culminating in Kurusi. Various attractions associated with the festival include Kuthirayeduppu, Kuthiyottam, traditional dances, musical performances, ezhunnallathu, thalapolivilakku, kettukazhcha, floats, and fireworks. Kuthirayeduppu ceremonies are marked by periods of fasting. From the initiation of the horse's construction until the removal of its decorations post-erection, the horse-builders adhere to a rigorous fasting regimen. Approximately 100 devotees of the goddess, who have committed to fasting, take turns lifting each horse to the goddess's temple.
The Eduppu horses consist of three components: the frame, Kathirukal, and the upper tent. The frame is crafted from teak and anvil wood, while the Kathirukal is constructed using coconut palm wood, bamboo, and arecanut palm wood. Decorative elements include cloth and glitter. The Ezhunnallathu, the principal event of Thiruvathira day, is scheduled to depart from the temple at 8:30 PM, with the Temple Melshanthi bearing the sword and anklet of the goddess, accompanied by thalapoli, Vilakku, and kuthiyottam. Kettukazhcha represents a heartfelt offering from the people of Mathira to their cherished deity, renowned for bestowing spontaneous blessings upon sincere devotees. This expression of gratitude, devotion, and unwavering faith is also a means of invoking prosperity and protection in their lives. The event features intricately crafted and adorned temple cars, referred to as 'Kuthira' (Horses) and 'Theru' (Chariots).
These temple cars and chariots are remarkably large, surpassing the dimensions of similar Kuthiras and Therus constructed during festivities at other temples throughout the Central Travancore region. When in motion, the breathtakingly tall and vibrantly decorated structures create an electrifying spectacle, leaving an indelible artistic impression, particularly at night against a backdrop of illuminated lights. The Mathira Thiruvathira kazhcha showcases the architectural and aesthetic brilliance of the ancient inhabitants of Kadakkal, who transformed an extraordinary vision into a monumental artistic achievement through collective effort and determination.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ കൊട്ടാരക്കര - ചവറ പാതയിൽ പുത്തൂരിനടുത്തുള്ള ഒരു ഗ്രാമമാണ് പാങ്ങോട്. ഇവിടെ പുരാതനമായ മതിര പീഠിക ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഐശ്വര്യവും, സർവ്വാഭീഷ്ടങ്ങളും നൽകുന്ന ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്കായാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. മതിര തിരുവാതിര മഹോത്സവം, പത്ത് ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന വാർഷിക ഉത്സവമാണ്, മകരമാസത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവം പാങ്ങോട് ദേശത്തിന്റെ ദേശീയോത്സവമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

കടയ്ക്കൽ മതിര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്ന ഈ മഹോത്സവം, കേരളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തമായ ഉത്സവങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. നാടിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പതിനായിരക്കണക്കിന് ആളുകൾ, ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള കുതിരയെടുപ്പ് കാണാൻ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നു. തൃക്കൊടിയേറ്റിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ ഒമ്പതാം ദിവസത്തിൽ പള്ളിവേട്ടയും പത്താം ദിവസത്തിൽ ആറാട്ടും പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയ ശേഷം, കുരുസിയോടെ ഉത്സവം കൊടിയിറങ്ങുന്നു.
ഈ ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കുത്തിയോട്ടം, കുതിരയെടുപ്പ്, നൃത്തനൃത്ത്യങ്ങൾ, സംഗീതസദസ്സ്, എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത്, താലപ്പൊലിവിളക്ക്, കെട്ടുകാഴ്ചകൾ, നിശ്ചലദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ, ആകാശദീപക്കാഴ്ച എന്നിവ ആകർഷകമായ പരിപാടികളാണ്.
വ്രതാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം കുതിരയെടുപ്പ് ചടങ്ങുകൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. കുതിരയുടെ നിർമ്മാണം ആരംഭിച്ച മുതൽ എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് കഴിഞ്ഞ് അലങ്കാരങ്ങൾ അഴിച്ചു മാറ്റുന്നതുവരെ, കുതിര കെട്ടുന്നവർ കടുത്ത വ്രതം അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു. വ്രതം എടുത്ത നൂറോളം ദേവീ ഭക്തർ മാറി മാറി തോളിൽ എടുത്ത് ഓരോ കുതിരകളെയും ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകൾ സർവ്വൈശ്വര്യപൂജയും ആയില്യപൂജയും ആണ്. എല്ലാ മലയാളമാസങ്ങളിലും തിരുവാതിര നാളിൽ നാടിന്റെ ഐശ്വര്യത്തിനും കുടുംബ ഐശ്വര്യത്തിനും വേണ്ടി സർവ്വൈശ്വര്യപൂജ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. രാഹുദോഷം, സർപ്പദോഷം പരിഹരിക്കുന്നതിനും, സന്താനലബ്ധി നേടുന്നതിനും, എല്ലാ മാസങ്ങളിലെയും ആയില്യം നാളിൽ നാഗരുകാവിൽ ആയില്യപൂജയും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കൂടാതെ, എല്ലാ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ചകളിലും സമൂഹ നാരങ്ങാ വിളക്കും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
