Mavachan Kav is situated in the village of Trikovilvattam, approximately 3 kilometers from Kannanallur in the Kollam district.
Mavachan Kav is a revered temple where Kirathamoorthy is worshipped. Lord Vettakkorumakan, also known as Vettekkaran, is a popular deity in many parts of Kerala, and some devotees believe that this deity is a form of Lord Shiva as a hunter (Kirathamoorthy). A notable ritual here is the Vettekkaran song, during which Kuruppans perform ceremonies by drawing intricate kalams (designs) using black, white, green, yellow, and red powders. They sing praises to the deity, and the komaram (oracle) wipes the kalam and breaks coconuts to the rhythm of traditional musical instruments. The main festivals celebrated in the temple are Shivaratri and Thiruvathira, particularly in the month of Dhanu. These occasions are marked by special rituals and ceremonies that attract devotees seeking the blessings of the deity.
മാവച്ചൻകാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം, തൃക്കോവിൽവട്ടം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ കണ്ണനല്ലൂരിൽ നിന്ന് 3 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള തൃക്കോവിൽവട്ടം ഗ്രാമത്തിലാണ് മാവച്ചൻ കാവ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഇവിടെ കിരാതമൂർത്തിയെയാണ് ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. കേരളത്തിലെ നിരവധി നമ്പൂതിരി ഗൃഹങ്ങളിൽ ശിവന്റെ കാട്ടാളരൂപമായ കിരാതമൂർത്തിയെ പരദേവതയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. വേട്ടേക്കരൻ എന്ന രൂപത്തിലും കിരാതസൂനു (വേട്ടയ്ക്കൊരുമകൻ) എന്ന രൂപത്തിലും പൂജകൾ നടത്താറുണ്ട്.
വേട്ടേക്കരൻ പാട്ട് എന്നത് ഒരു അനുഷ്ഠാനമാണ്. കുറുപ്പന്മാർ കളമെഴുതി (കറുപ്പ്, വെളുപ്പ്, പച്ച, മഞ്ഞ, ചുകപ്പ് എന്നീ നിറങ്ങളിൽ പൊടികൾ ഉപയോഗിച്ച്) പാട്ടിലൂടെ ദേവനെ പുകഴ്ത്തുകയും, വാദ്യമേളങ്ങളുടെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ കോമരം (വെളിച്ചപ്പാട്) ഉറഞ്ഞുതുള്ളി കളം മായ്ക്കുകയും, നാളികേരങ്ങൾ എറിഞ്ഞുടയ്ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന ചടങ്ങുകൾ ദേവപ്രീതിക്കായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷ ദിവസങ്ങൾ ശിവരാത്രിയും ധനുമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിരയുമാണ്.
