Mundakkal Shree Bhadrakali Temple is located in close proximity to the Arabian Sea, to the east of Mahatma Gandhi Park at Kollam Beach. It is dedicated to the goddess Bhadrakali.
Makara Bharani is a significant festival celebrated at Mundakkal Sree Bhadra Kali Kshethram, where members of the Aasan family gather for ten days each year. During the month of Kanni, a special Aayilliya Pooja takes place at Kavadi Kav and Kalari Kshethram, bringing together all family members for this important day. On the day of the Makara Bharani festival, the khoshayathra commences from Mundakkal Sree Bhadra Kali Kshethram, traversing the entire Mundakkal area, including Kalari Kshethram and Kalarikav, before concluding at Shree Bhadra Kali Kshethram.
The procession is marked by illuminated homes and the participation of numerous beautifully adorned elephants. The Friends of Elephants team organizes the Aanayootu, while various committees oversee the different functions of the festival. Family members and the wider community come together to celebrate this vibrant event. This temple is associated with the Mundakkal Aasan family, a prominent lineage during the era of Deshinganadu Natturajiyam. The Valiya Veedu served as the ancestral home of the Mundakkal Aasan family. Many male members of the Valiya Veedu were soldiers in Desingadu, known as Aasan, and gained renown for their expertise in Kalaripayatu.
Historically, the Mundakkal area was rich with significant names that still persist today, such as Kottayadi (below the fort), Kottamala (fort hill), Kottathazham (beneath the fort), Kottappuram (outside the fort), Kollantazhikom (home of the blacksmith), and Puthukkala (weapon sharpening). These names suggest the presence of a fort and indicate a connection to the history of Disinganadu.
The Valiya Veedu area is located in Udyamarthanda Puram Cherry, Mundakkal East. Kondethu is merely a house name and does not have an associated temple. Members of the Kendeth household are also part of the Valiya Veedu, along with the Mundakkal Aasan and Kolleri Aasan families. The Mundakkal Bhadrakali Shektram, Kalari Shekthram, and Kavadikave are three worship sites belonging to the members of the Valiya Veedu Mundakkal Aasan family.

കളരിക്കാവിലും കളരിക്കൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും, എല്ലാ വർഷവും ഒരു പകലും രാത്രിയും ആയില്യപൂജ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു, ഇതിലും എല്ലാ ആശാൻ കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളും പങ്കുചേരുന്നു. മകരഭരണി നാളിൽ മുണ്ടക്കൽ ശ്രീഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നാരംഭിച്ച്, മുണ്ടക്കൽ പ്രദേശത്തെ എല്ലാ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലൂടെയും ചുറ്റി കളരിക്കൽ ക്ഷേത്രവും കാവടിക്കാവും കടന്നുയരുന്ന ഘോഷയാത്ര, വീണ്ടും ശ്രീഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരും. വീടുകളുടെ ഇരുവശവും പ്രകാശം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു, കൂടാതെ മനോഹരമായ പ്ലോട്ടുകളും ആനകളും, വാദ്യഘോഷങ്ങളും, താലപ്പൊലിയും ഘോഷയാത്രയെ വർണ്ണാഭമാക്കുന്നു.
