Vallikunnam Padayanivettam Devi Temple is a historic site that has stood for more than a millennium, dedicated to the deities Sri Durga and Sri Bhadra Bhagavathi.
Padayani, Thottampattu, and Kalamezhuthumpattum continue to be performed at this temple. Numerous instances highlight the blessings received by those who have prayed before the revered goddesses of the region. Devotees from across the nation are gathering at the temple to seek the blessings of Goddess Bhaktavatsala, who is known to alleviate sorrow and bring auspiciousness.
This temple is notable for housing two primary goddesses, Sridurga and Sribhadra, both manifestations of Parasakti, the embodiment of Omkara.
As a result, devotees honor and venerate both deities with equal reverence. In addition to the main deities, the temple also features Balaganapati and Yakshiyamma. Surrounding the temple are other deities, including Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Yogishwaran, Ghandakarna, Madan, Rakshas, Marutha, Murthy, and Yakshi. Additionally, a Shiva temple is located to the north, just outside the temple's perimeter. The primary deities can be observed after paying respects to all the deities located outside the temple grounds. It is advised that women do not engage in darshan with their hair uncovered. Visiting the temple on Tuesdays and Fridays holds particular significance.
Given that Sri Durga and Bhadra are both vital to the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, the deities are prominently displayed outside the shrine during special occasions. Such rituals are rare among temples. The temple is managed by representatives from seven regions within the Vallikunnam area. The blessings of the Mother are believed to liberate us from the challenges of Kali Yuga and guide us toward a prosperous existence. കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയുടെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്ത് ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയുടെ അതിർത്തിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന വള്ളിക്കുന്നം ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ പടയണിവെട്ടം ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. സമ്പന്നമായ സാംസ്കാരിക പൈതൃകത്തിന്റെ ഉറവിടമായ ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ രാജഭരണത്തിന്റെ അവശിഷ്ടങ്ങളും ചരിത്രസ്മൃതികളും ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. ആയിരത്തിലധികം വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രം ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്കും ശ്രീ ഭദ്രാഭഗവതിക്കുമാണ് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.

ദേവപ്രശ്നം പരിഹരിക്കാൻ ജനങ്ങൾ ഒരുമിച്ചു തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ദേവപ്രശ്നം അനുസരിച്ച്, ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയുടെയും ശ്രീഭദ്രാദേവിയുടെയും സാന്നിധ്യം ഉണ്ടെന്ന് കണ്ടെത്തി. ഈ രണ്ട് ദേവികൾക്കായി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ നിർമ്മിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. പടയണിയുടെ വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ ദേവചൈതന്യമുള്ള സ്ത്രീകളെ കണ്ടതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ആ സ്ഥലം പടയണിവെട്ടം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പടയണിയും, തോറ്റംപാട്ടും, കളമെഴുത്തുംപാട്ടും ആചാരാനുഷ്ടാനങ്ങളോടെ ആണ്ടുതോറും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ദു:ഖനിവാരണവും ഐശ്വര്യവും നൽകുന്ന ഭക്തവത്സല ദേവിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം നേടാൻ നാടിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു.
പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾക്കൊപ്പം ബാലഗണപതിയും യക്ഷിയമ്മയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സന്നിഹിതമാണ്. ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിന് പുറത്ത് നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, യോഗീശ്വരൻ, ഘണ്ടാകർണ്ണൻ, മദൻ, രക്ഷസ്, മറുത, മൂർത്തി, യക്ഷി എന്നിവരടങ്ങിയ ദേവതകൾ ഉണ്ട്. ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിനു പുറത്ത് വടക്കുഭാഗത്ത് ഒരു ശിവക്ഷേത്രവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രോത്സവം മേടമാസത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്നു. ഒൻപത് ദിവസത്തെ തിരുവുത്സവം തൃക്കൊടിയേറ്റതോടെ ആരംഭിച്ച്, ഒൻപതാം ദിവസം ആറാട്ടോടെ കൊടിയിറങ്ങുന്നു.
പ്രധാന വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങൾ: മകരമാസത്തിലെ പുനഃപ്രതിഷ്ഠാ വാർഷികം, വാർഷികത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള പൊങ്കാല, മഹാദീപക്കാഴ്ച, സമൂഹ അൻപൊലി, മകരത്തിലെ പാറക്കെഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പ്, ധനുമാസത്തിലെ ഭാഗവത സപ്താഹ യജ്ഞം, മേടമാസത്തിലെ വിഷു ദിനത്തിൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്ന ഒൻപത് ദിവസത്തെ തിരുവുത്സവം. മറ്റ് എല്ലാ വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങളിലും, നവരാത്രിക്ക് ഒൻപത് ദിവസവും പ്രത്യേക പൂജയും, തുടർന്ന് വിദ്യാരംഭവും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഭക്തിയോടെ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
