Panakkattodil Devi Temple is a Hindu place of worship located in the village of Chavara Thekkumbhagom, situated within the Kollam district of Kerala, India. The principal deity revered at this temple is Durga.
The temple is overseen by the Travancore Devaswom Board in Kerala. The Thalappoli celebration during 'Meda Bharani' and the annual festival held in April and May are particularly well-known. Panakkattodil Devi Temple is an ancient and renowned Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess in South Kerala, situated in Chavara Thekkumbhagom within the Kollam District. While there is no historical documentation regarding the temple's origins, it is believed to be approximately 1,000 years old. According to tradition, a wandering Brahmin youth arrived in Chavara Thekkumbhagom, where he encountered a skilled carpenter named Koyippurathu Nambeesan Aasari. Together, they decided to construct a temple in the area. Nambeesan Aasari was responsible for the foundational structure of the temple, after which the Brahmin youth invoked the deity Bhadrakali and worshipped her. Subsequently, various components of the temple were constructed, attracting numerous devotees. The temple was established on the property of the Valayaappallil family. Some records indicate that the temple was built under the guidance of Manjippuzha Thamburan. In 1946 (Malayalam Era or Kollavarsham 1121), the temple was taken over by the Travancore Government.
പനയ്ക്കറ്റോടിൽ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം
ദക്ഷിണകേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് പനയ്ക്കറ്റോടിൽ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ചവറ തെക്കുംഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ പുരാതന ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം, അതിന്റെ ആകർഷകമായ സ്ഥലം കൊണ്ട് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. അഷ്ടമുടിക്കായലിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന മനോഹരമായ ഗ്രാമമാണ് തെക്കുംഭാഗം. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉൽപ്പത്തിയെക്കുറിച്ച് ഉറപ്പുള്ള ചരിത്ര രേഖകൾ ലഭ്യമല്ല, എന്നാൽ ആയിരത്തിലേറെ വർഷങ്ങൾ പഴക്കമുള്ളതാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
ആണ്ടുതോറും ഉത്സവാരംഭത്തിന്റെ തലേദിവസം, നാലുകരകളിലെ കന്യകമാരുടെ താലപ്പൊലിയോടുകുടി ദേവിയെ ഊരുവലത്തായി എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു. ഈ എഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പിന് 'ജിവത' കലമാൻ കൊമ്പായിരിക്കണം, കൂടാതെ എഴുന്നള്ളുന്നത് ഏഴ് ദിവസത്തെ വ്രതമെടുത്ത, അമ്പലം നിൽക്കുന്ന കരയിലെ ഒരു ബാലികയായിരിക്കണം എന്നത് ദേവിയുടെ ഇച്ഛയായി എല്ലാവരും അംഗീകരിച്ചു. കൈവല്യദായനിമാരായ ശ്രീ പനയ്ക്കറ്റോടിൽ തമ്പുരാട്ടിമാർ, നാടിനും നാട്ടുകാർക്കും സർവൈശ്വര്യങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്ന ശ്രീ പനയ്ക്കറ്റോടിൽ, അമ്മമാരുടെ പന്ത്രണ്ട് ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന തിരുവുത്സവം മേടമാസത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകൾ കഥകളാണ്.
ദേവിമാരുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം നേടാൻ കഥകളി മാത്രമല്ല, മറ്റ് വഴികൾ ഇല്ല. അരിപ്പൊടി, തേങ്ങ, ചുക്ക്, പഴം, ശർക്കര, ജീരകം എന്നിവയുടെ പ്രത്യേക കൂട്ടം ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നു. ഈ കൂട്ട് വട്ടയിലയിൽ പൊതിഞ്ഞ് ആവിയിൽ പുഴുങ്ങിയെടുക്കുന്ന അട നിവേദ്യമാണ് മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാന വഴിപാടായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഇരട്ടിമധുരം, പായസം, പാൽപായസം, കുങ്കുമാഭിഷേകം, കളഭാഭിഷേകം, പൂമുടൽ സ്വർണം സമർപ്പിക്കൽ, ആനയെ എഴുനള്ളിക്കൽ, കളമെഴുത്തും പാട്ടും, നാരങ്ങാവിളക്ക്, നീരാഞ്ജന വിളക്ക് എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് വഴിപാടുകളാണ്.
