Panayancheri Sri Dharma Shasta Temple is situated in Anchal, within the Kollam district. At this temple, Sri Dharma Shasta is venerated as Bala Shasta, oriented towards the east.
A deity, depicted as a youthful figure, is accompanied by the sub-deities Shiva, Ganapati, Bhagwati, and Nagaraja. The temple, designed in the traditional style of Kerala, is accompanied by a large pond. The fish inhabiting the temple pond are referred to as "Thirumakkal." It is a common practice to offer 'oottu' to these fish as a remedy for chronic ailments, with the meenoottu being particularly renowned for its effectiveness in treating skin diseases.
The temple is currently managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. Historical accounts suggest that it was established by the Kottarakkara royal family. The eight-day temple festival, known as Anchal Tirunal Mahotsavam, occurs in the month of Dhanu (January). The festivities commence with Trikodiyettu and culminate in vibrant celebrations following Pallivetta and Aarattu. During the festival period, the temple is adorned magnificently. Notable events include Thalapoli, Annadanam, Pongala, Utsavabali, Neyabhishekam, Ezhunnallathu, and Ghosayatra, with the final day featuring Bhoothan Vilakku. Additionally, the temple observes 41 days of special pujas during the Mandal period, with significant events such as Kalamezhuthu, Shastampaattu, Azhi Puja, and Makaravilakku in the month of Makaram. The principal offerings at the temple include Neerajanam, Meenoottu, Pushpabhishekam, Ghee Abhishekam, Palpayasam, Ashtadravya Mahaganapati Homam, Aravana, Appam, Payasam, Raktapushpanjali, and Ashtothararchana.
പനയഞ്ചേരി ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം
അഞ്ചലിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പനയഞ്ചേരി ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. കൊല്ലം നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 40 കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കും, തിരുവനന്തപുരം നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 60 കിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്കുകിഴക്കുമാറി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ബാലശാസ്താവായിട്ടാണ് പനയഞ്ചേരി ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനം ലഭ്യമാണ്. ഭഗവാനോടൊപ്പം ശിവൻ, ഗണപതി, ഭഗവതി, നാഗരാജാവ് എന്നിവരെയും ഉപദേവതകളായി കാണാം. പനയഞ്ചേരി ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത മതേതര സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെ സമന്വയമാണ്.
ഇവിടെ വഴിപാട് നടത്തുന്നതിൽ വിവിധ മതങ്ങളിലുള്ള ആളുകൾ പങ്കാളികളാകുന്നത് ഈ സാംസ്കാരിക സമന്വയത്തിന്റെ ഉദാഹരണമാണ്. ശനിദോഷം തീരാനുള്ള മുഖ്യപൂജയായ നീരാഞ്ജനവും ഇവിടെ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ പരമ്പരാഗത ശൈലിയിൽ നിർമ്മിതമായ ഒരു മനോഹര ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനടുത്തു വിശാലമായ ഒരു കുളവും കാണാം. ക്ഷേത്രകുളത്തിലെ മത്സ്യങ്ങൾ "തിരുമക്കള" എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. സ്ഥിരമായി ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന രോഗങ്ങൾ അകലുവാൻ ഈ മീനുകൾക്ക് ഊട്ട് നൽകുന്ന ഒരു ആചാരം നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് ത്വക്ക് രോഗങ്ങൾ അകലുവാൻ ഇവിടുത്തെ മീനുകൾ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
ഇപ്പോൾ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാണു ക്ഷേത്രം.
കൊട്ടാരക്കര രാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിതമായതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ധനുമാസത്തിൽ (ജനുവരി) 8 ദിവസത്തെ ക്ഷേത്രോത്സവം (അഞ്ചൽ തിരുനാൾ മഹോത്സവം) ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവം തൃക്കൊടിയേറ്റോടെ ആരംഭിച്ച്, വർണ്ണാഭമായ ആഘോഷങ്ങളോടെ പള്ളിവേട്ടയും ആറാട്ടും കഴിഞ്ഞ് കൊടിയിറങ്ങുന്നു. ഉത്സവനാളുകളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രം അത്യന്തം ഭംഗിയായി അലങ്കരിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് താലപ്പൊലി, അന്നദാനം, പൊങ്കാല, ഉത്സവബലി, നെയ്യഭിഷേകം, എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത്, വർണ്ണാഭമായ ഘോഷയാത്ര എന്നിവ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങളാണ്.
അവസാന ദിവസം ഭൂതത്താൻ വിളക്കോടെ സമാപിക്കുന്നു. മണ്ഡലക്കാലത്ത് 41 ദിവസവും പ്രത്യേക പൂജകൾ, കളമെഴുത്ത്, ശാസ്താം പാട്ട്, ആഴിപൂജ, മകരത്തിലെ മകരവിളക്ക് എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങളാണ്.ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകൾ എന്നതിൽ നീരാജനം, മീനൂട്ട്, പുഷ്പാഭിഷേകം, നെയ്യഭിഷേകം, പാൽപ്പായസം, അഷ്ടദ്രവ്യ മഹാഗണപതി ഹോമം, അരവണ, അപ്പം, പായസം, രക്തപുഷ്പാഞ്ജലി, അഷ്ടോത്തരാർച്ചന എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
