Pandakasala Pukayila Ganapathy Temple is located just one kilometer from the Kollam Junction Railway Station. The principal deity worshipped at this temple is Lord Ganapathy.
This temple possesses the unique distinction of being the sole temple in Kerala where Lord Ganapathy is oriented towards the north. While Lord Ganapathy is revered as the principal deity, Lord Siva is also venerated here with equal significance. Additionally, there is a separate shrine dedicated to Naga within the temple premises. The Chinthathura Vinayaka Temple was established by tobacco merchants originating from Sri Lanka. In the past, a group of these merchants was en route to Kollam in India when they lost their way and were compelled to return to their homeland.
An astrological consultation, known as devaprasna, indicated that the construction of a Ganapathi temple would prevent such misadventures in the future. Additionally, they believed that this endeavor would bring them joy and prosperity. Consequently, they built the temple in Kollam. The architectural style of the temple distinctly reflects Sri Lankan influences, serving as evidence of this narrative.Vinayaka Chaturthi is the principal festival observed at this temple.
പണ്ടകശാല പുകയില ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജംഗ്ഷൻ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ, കൊല്ലത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പണ്ടകശാല പുകയില ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം (ചിന്തത്തുറ വിനായക ക്ഷേത്രം) ആണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ഗണപതി (വിനായകൻ) ആണ്. കേരളത്തിലെ വടക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമുള്ള ഏക ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രമായ പ്രത്യേകതയും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുണ്ട്. ഗണപതിയുടെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയോടൊപ്പം, ശിവനും സമാന പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നാഗത്താൻ എന്ന പ്രത്യേക ക്ഷേത്രവും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പുകയില വ്യാപാരികളാണ് ചിന്തത്തുറ വിനായക ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്. ഏറെക്കാലം മുമ്പ്, ശ്രീലങ്കയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ചില പുകയില വ്യാപാരികൾ കൊല്ലത്തേക്ക് കപ്പൽ വഴി വരുമ്പോൾ, അവർക്ക് വഴിയിൽ തെറ്റി അവരുടെ ജന്മനാട്ടിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങേണ്ടിവന്നു. ഭാവിയിൽ ഇത്തരത്തിലുള്ള സംഭവങ്ങൾ ആവർത്തിക്കാതിരിക്കാൻ ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിക്കണമെന്ന് ഒരു ദേവപ്രശ്നം (കാരണങ്ങൾ കണ്ടെത്താനുള്ള ജ്യോതിഷ രീതി) സൂചിപ്പിച്ചു.
ഇത് അവർക്ക് സന്തോഷവും സമൃദ്ധിയും നൽകുമെന്ന് അവർ വിശ്വസിച്ചു. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ, അവർ കൊല്ലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ വാസ്തുവിദ്യാ ശൈലി ശ്രീലങ്കക്കാരുടെ ശൈലിക്ക് സമാനമാണ്, ഇത് ഈ ഐതിഹ്യത്തിന്റെ തെളിവായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് സമീപം കാണുന്ന ഒരു ലിഖിതത്തിൽ 1496-ൽ ഒരു കേരള ഭരണാധികാരി ക്ഷേത്രം പുതുക്കിയതായി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ് വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി.
