Subrahmanya Temple located in Panmana, Kollam district, is regarded as the most renowned and influential of the Subrahmanya temples in Kerala.
The revered and historic Panmana Major Sri Subrahmanya Swamy Temple, often referred to as the Southern Palani, is home to several sub-deities, including Ganapathi, Sasthavu, and Hidumban. The most significant festival celebrated at this temple is 'Thaipooyam,' which marks the birthday of Lord Subrahmanya and occurs on the 'Pooyam' day in the month of Makaram. Another notable occasion is 'Shashti,' during which devotees observe a vratha to seek the blessings of Lord Subrahmanya.
Among the various offerings, 'Panchamritham' holds particular importance as naivedya, while 'Kadala naivedya' is another significant offering, primarily dedicated to receiving blessings from Hidumban. The deity Panmana Subramaniaswamy is envisioned as Balamurugan. A unique offering known as 'Muda' is associated with the ancient Panmana Subrahmanyaswamy Temple, serving purposes related to fertility, healing, and other believed benefits. Devotees are required to obtain a receipt from the temple, which includes the date and name, along with a designated number for the Muda offering.
The Muda, along with the receipt, must then be presented at the temple. Following the pooja, one is to circumambulate the temple while carrying the Muda, pay three respects to the flagpole, and place the offering at its base. This ritual constitutes the Muda offering aimed at fulfilling specific intentions. Numerous individuals partake in this offering seeking remedies for ailments and blessings for children. An 11-day festival culminates in Pooram, featuring fireworks, to honor the divine presence of the deity within the temple and to invoke the Lord’s blessings for health and prosperity.

പന്മന എന്ന ഗ്രാമം, കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളിയിൽ നിന്നും 19 കിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്കായി, ചവറയിൽ നിന്നും 3.3 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. സാംസ്കാരിക സമ്പത്തുകൊണ്ട് പ്രശസ്തമായ ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയഭൂമിയിൽ, പീലി വിടർത്തിയ മയിലുകളും തലയെടുപ്പുള്ള ഗജവീരന്മാരും ചേർന്ന് ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ആനന്ദം നൽകുന്ന തെക്കൻ പഴനി എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പുണ്യപുരാതനമായ പന്മന മേജർ ശ്രീ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ബാലമുരുകനായാണ് പന്മന സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിയെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നത്. കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനം ലഭ്യമാണ്. ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ആൽത്തറയിൽ സ്ഥാനം ഉള്ള ഹിഡുംബൻ എന്നിവയാണ് പന്മനത്തമ്പുരാന്റെ സന്നിധിയിലെ ഉപദേവന്മാർ.
ചിരപ്രാചീനമായ പന്മന സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, സന്താനലബ്ധി, രോഗശാന്തി, മറ്റ് ഉദ്ദിഷ്ട കാര്യങ്ങൾ സാധ്യമാക്കുന്നതിനായി അപൂർവമായ വഴിപാടുകൾ നൽകപ്പെടുന്നു. തുലാമാസത്തിലെ കറുത്തവാവ് ആറാട്ട് 11 ദിവസത്തെയും കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ അത്തം നാൾ 11 ദിവസത്തെയും ഉത്സവങ്ങളാണ്. പഴയ കാലത്ത്, ഉത്സവം നടക്കുന്ന സമയത്ത് വിഗ്രഹം കടലിൽ പോയി. പിറ്റേന്നാണ് അത് തിരിച്ചു കിട്ടിയത്. അതിനുശേഷം പതിനൊന്നാം ദിവസം ആറാട്ടായി ഉത്സവം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നതാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. മകരത്തിലെ തൈപ്പൂയത്തിനും ഇവിടെ വലിയ ആഘോഷങ്ങളാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. പന്മന, പൊൻമന തുടങ്ങിയ 5 മനക്കാരുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രം ഇപ്പോൾ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാണ്.
