Puttingal Temple is a Hindu shrine located in the coastal town of Paravur, situated in the Kollam district.
The temple was established after devotees experienced the divine presence of the goddess on an ant hill, known as "Puttu" in Malayalam, which gives the temple its name. The main festival is celebrated on the day of the Bharani star in the Malayalam month of Meenam. The festival is marked by vibrant fireworks, cultural events, and various poojas. Key offerings to the Puttungal Goddess include aval (rice flakes), malar (puffed rice), tender coconut, and flowers. The festivals attract thousands of visitors, including many from abroad.
Following the festival, the temple remains closed for seven days, during which no poojas are performed. One of the main offerings at the Puttungal temple is the "Thottam Paattu," a traditional devotional song performed in honor of the goddess. This ritual begins on the 21st day of the Malayalam month of Vrischikam (November–December) and continues until the main festival of the goddess. Three individuals recite the story of the goddess in three parts, performed twice daily—first in the evening and later after the Deeparadhana (lamp worship). After the conclusion of the Thottam Paattu season, the temple once again closes for seven days.
പരവൂർ പുറ്റിങ്ങൽ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ പരവൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ പുറ്റിങ്ങൽ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം, കേരളത്തിലെ വലിയ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ആദിപരാശക്തിയായ ഭദ്രകാളിയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മുഖ്യദേവി. ദേവി ഉറുമ്പിൻപുറ്റിൽ വസിക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം, അതിനാൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് "പുറ്റിങ്ങൽ" എന്ന പേരുകിട്ടിയതും. പ്രതിവർഷം മീനമാസത്തിലെ ഭരണി നാളിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് അശ്വതി വിളക്ക്, കഥകളി, കമ്പടിക്കളി, മരമെടുപ്പ് എന്നിവയെക്കൂടാതെ വെടിക്കെട്ടും, പ്രത്യേകിച്ചും മത്സരക്കമ്പം, പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങളാണ്.
വൃശ്ചികം 21 മുതൽ ഉത്സവദിനം വരെ തോറ്റംപാട്ട് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു, ഇത് ഭദ്രകാളിയുടെ ജന്മകഥയും ദാരികവധവും ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്നു.
നവരാത്രിയും വിദ്യാരംഭവും തുലാമാസത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങളാണ്. പുരാതനകാലത്ത് ഈ പ്രദേശം കാവുകളും കാടുകളും നിറഞ്ഞതായിരുന്നു. തോറ്റംപാട്ട് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകളിൽ ഒന്നായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു, ദേവിയുടെ സൃഷ്ടിയും അനുഭവങ്ങളും ഇതിൽ മദ്ധ്യസ്ഥമാക്കിയാണ് ഇത് ആലപിക്കുന്നത്. പുറ്റിങ്ങൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വെടിക്കെട്ട്, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് മത്സരക്കമ്പം, തെക്കൻ കേരളത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ വെടിക്കെട്ട് പരിപാടികളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്, നിരവധി ഭക്തജനങ്ങളും സഞ്ചാരികളും ഈ ആവേശഭരിതമായ ദൃശ്യം കാണാൻ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു.
