Pavitreswaram Malanada Temple is a unique temple in India, situated 7 kilometers from East Kallada in the Kollam district. It is noteworthy for being the sole temple in Kerala dedicated to the deity Shakunideva.
Pavitreswaram Malanada Temple is a unique and rare temple located 7 km from East Kallada in Kollam district, Kerala. The temple, situated atop a hill, is named "Malanada" due to its location on the mountain ("mala" means mountain, and "nada" means temple). One of the most fascinating aspects of temples in Kerala is that many mythological figures, including Duryodhana, Bhimasena, Shakuni, Panchali, Sita, and Narada, have dedicated temples. Even legendary figures like Kayamkulam Kochunni, a well-known outlaw, have temples in Kerala. Furthermore, there are temples dedicated to animals as well, like the "Urumbachan Kottam" in Kannur, which is a temple for ants. Pavitreswaram Malanada Temple is the only temple in Kerala with Shakunideva as the presiding deity. The festival at this temple is celebrated during the month of Makaram (January-February). The highlight of the festival is the grand procession featuring the colorful "kettukazhcha" displays.
To reach the temple from Kollam, one can take the Chemkotta train and alight at Kundara station, then catch the Cheerangavu-Puthur bus to Pavithreswaram, followed by a 500-meter walk to the temple. For those coming from Kottarakkara, the Puthur-Karunagapally bus will take them to Puthur, and from there, a short walk will lead to Pavithreswaram. The temple hosts the Uchhara festival every year on Makaram 28. Unique offerings to Shakunideva include toddy, liquor, sugarcane, matchboxes, silk, and betel leaves (thamboolam), reflecting the distinct traditions of this temple.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ കിഴക്കേ കല്ലടയിൽ നിന്ന് 7 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഭാരതത്തിലെ അപൂർവ്വമായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് പവിത്രേശ്വരം മലനട ക്ഷേത്രം. മലയുടെ മുകളിലുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നതിനാൽ ഈ സ്ഥലം മലനട എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. കുറവരുടെ പൂർവ്വിക, പ്രകൃതി ആരാധനാ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളായ മലനടകൾ, കുറിഞ്ഞി എന്നതിലൂടെ കുറവരുടെ തിണൈ ആയി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അതിനാൽ, മലകൾ അവരുടെ ആരാധനാ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളായി മാറിയതാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഇതിഹാസ പുരുഷനായ ശകുനിദേവന് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ ശകുനിദേവ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള ഏക ക്ഷേത്രമായ പവിത്രേശ്വരം മലനട ക്ഷേത്രം കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
മകരമാസത്തിൽ ഇവിടെ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകത വർണ്ണാഭമായ കെട്ടുകാഴ്ചയാണ്. കൊല്ലത്തുനിന്നും പുനലൂരിലേക്ക് പോകുന്ന ട്രയിനിൽ കുണ്ടറ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ ഇറങ്ങി, അവിടെ നിന്ന് ചീരങ്കാവ് - പുത്തൂർ ബസ്സിൽ കയറി പവിത്രേശ്വരത്ത് ഇറങ്ങണം. 500 മീറ്റർ നടന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം. കൊട്ടാരക്കരയിൽ നിന്നും വരുന്നവർ പുത്തൂർ-കരുനാഗപ്പള്ളി ബസ്സിൽ കയറി പുത്തൂരിൽ ഇറങ്ങി, അവിടെ നിന്നും 500 മീറ്റർ നടന്ന് പവിത്രേശ്വരത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം. ഓരോ വർഷവും മകരം 28-ന് ഇവിടെ ഉച്ചാര മഹോത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ചടങ്ങിൽ ദേവനോട് നേർച്ചയായി കള്ള്, മദ്യം, ചക്കര, തീവെട്ടി, പട്ട്, മുറുക്കാൻ എന്നിവ അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
