Sri Maha Vishnu Temple in Poovatoor East is a renowned religious site situated in the Poovatoor village, which spans three areas within the Kottarakkara taluk in the northern region of the Kollam district.
Lord Vishnu, the central figure of the temple, is revered in his exalted manifestation as Mahavishnu, the guardian and sustainer of the cosmos. Worshippers seek his grace for tranquility, abundance, and spiritual enlightenment. Numerous special rituals and offerings are presented to Lord Vishnu during significant days and festive events, calling upon his blessings for the welfare and prosperity of his devotees. The temple observes several significant days, including Ashtamirohini and Sri Krishna Jayanti during the month of Chingam, Kuchela Day on the first Wednesday of Dhanu, and Vishu on the first day of Medam. Additionally, the first Thursday of each month, Ekadashi, and the Mandala period from the month of Vrischikam until the end of Dhanu are recognized as special occasions marked by rituals. The Sreemad Bhagavatha Sapthaha Yanjam is also conducted annually.

കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയുടെ വടക്കൻ ഭാഗത്ത് കൊട്ടാരക്കര താലൂക്കിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പൂവറ്റൂർ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ മൂന്ന് കരകളിൽ, പൂവറ്റൂർ കിഴക്കിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്ത ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് പുവറ്റൂർ കിഴക്ക് ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം. പൂവറ്റൂരിൽ നിന്നും ഏകദേശം ഒന്നര കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലത്തിൽ, 4 മിനിറ്റിനുള്ളിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താൻ സാധിക്കും. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന് സമർപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതാണ്.
കാലക്രമേണ മോശമായ അവസ്ഥയിൽ ആയിരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം, കാതലായ നിർമ്മാണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ നടത്തി, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ അന്തരീക്ഷം കൂടുതൽ മനോഹരവും ഭക്തിസാന്ദ്രവുമാക്കി മാറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങൾ ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ജയന്തി, ധനുമാസത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ ബുധനാഴ്ച കുചേല ദിനം, വിഷുദിനം, എല്ലാ മാസങ്ങളിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ വ്യാഴാഴ്ച, ഏകാദശി, കൂടാതെ വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ മണ്ഡലകാലം എന്നിവയാണ്.
