Prakulam Sri Guruvayoorappan Temple is a renowned temple situated in Prakulam, near Ashtamudilake in the Kollam district.
Prakulam Shree Guruvayoorappan Temple, revered as the lamp of Prakulam and the guardian of opulence, is dedicated to Sri Maha Vishnu, the Lord of Vaikuntha, who sustains all beings. Adorned with the conch, chakra, and gada, the deity is worshipped in the form of Unnikanna, an embodiment of Sri Krishna, yet known as Guruvayurappan, blessed by Lakshmi's presence, and reigning as the Lord of the land. The main offering in the temple is the "Uri offering," a devotional act of surrender to the almighty. Devotees present their hopes, wishes, and sorrows before the Lord, symbolizing their dependence on his mercy and grace.
The Uri, traditionally filled with offerings such as butter, avil (rice flakes), malar (puffed rice), sugar candy, sugar, jaggery, laddu, and kadalipazham (plantain banana), represents the devotee's plea for blessings and the removal of hardships. Butter laddu, one of the popular offerings, can be booked in advance at the temple. The Uri offering can be made every Thursday and Sunday, on the first day of each Malayalam month, on the Rohini star day (associated with Lord Krishna’s incarnation), and on other special days.
Devotees who present the Uri offering receive it back along with the items used to fill it as a form of prasadam. All significant religious days are celebrated in the temple, with main occasions including Thiruvonam in Chingam month, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Ashtamirohini (Krishna's birthday), Pujavaypu and Vidya Rambham (initiating learning), Ayilyampuja in Thulam month, Mandala period starting from the 1st of Vrischikam, Vishukani in Medam, and the Ramayana month in Karkitakam. These festivals are observed with grandeur, devotion, and enthusiasm, attracting numerous devotees to the temple.

ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടായ ഉറി, ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണനായി ഗുരുവായൂരപ്പനു മുന്നിൽ, വെണ്ണ, അവിൽ, മലർ, കൽക്കണ്ടം, പഞ്ചസാര, ശർക്കര, ലഡു, കദളിപ്പഴം തുടങ്ങിയവയിൽ നിറച്ച് സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. വെണ്ണ, ലഡു എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ മുൻകൂറായി ബുക്ക് ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ്. ഉറി, എല്ലാ വ്യാഴവും ഞായറാഴ്ചയും, മലയാളമാസം ഒന്നാം തീയതിയും, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണാവതാര ദിനമായ രോഹിണി ദിവസവും, മറ്റു വിശേഷാൽ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും സമർപ്പിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ദുഃഖ നിവാരണത്തിനായി ഉറി വഴിപാട് സമർപ്പിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്. ഉറി വഴിപാട് സമർപ്പിച്ച ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉറിയും ഉറിയിൽ നിറയ്ക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള സാധനങ്ങളും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ലഭ്യമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങൾ: മേടവിഷു മഹോത്സവം, വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി മഹോത്സവം, മഹാകലശപൂജ എന്നിവയാണ്.
