Sri Mahaganapati Temple is situated on the banks of Ashtamudi Kayal. It is believed that the Ganesha idol, facing the Ashtamudi lake, holds significant power. It is also the only Ganesha temple of its kind in South Kerala.
Ganesha (Mahaganapati), also known as Vigneshwar, is the Lord of Ganas. It is believed that receiving the blessings of Ganesha removes all obstacles, which is why he is called Vigneswaran. Lord Ganesha is worshipped first to ensure an auspicious beginning and the absence of hindrances. Known as the creator of the universe, Ganesha is also referred to as Mahaganapati, which is the complete form of Ganesha.
Lord Mahaganapati is worshipped primarily in temples. The major celebrations at the temple include Vinayaka Chaturthi and Ganesha Chaturthi. Vinayaka Chaturthi is a festival celebrated on the Chaturthi day of the bright half of the month of Leo, believed to be Lord Ganesha's birthday. Ganesha Chaturthi is the most important festival dedicated to Ganesha. Friday is considered the most significant day for Ganesha worship. Sankadahara Chaturthi, the fourth tithi after Poornami in the Malayalam month, is also observed. It is believed that fasting and praying on this day will lead to Lord Ganesha blessing the devotee by removing all troubles and obstacles, granting the fulfillment of their wishes.
പുതുക്കാട് ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ചവറ കൊറ്റംകുളങ്ങര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നും 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കോട്ട് സഞ്ചരിച്ചാൽ, അഷ്ടമുടി കായലിന്റെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതന ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരാം. അഷ്ടമുടി കായലിലേക്ക് ദർശിക്കുന്ന ഗണപതി വിഗ്രഹത്തിന് വലിയ ശക്തി ഉള്ളതായി വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. തെക്കൻ കേരളത്തിൽ ഈ രീതിയിൽ ഉള്ള ഏക ഗണപതി ക്ഷേത്രമാണിത്. ഗണങ്ങളുടെ അധിപതിയായ ഗണേശൻ (മഹാഗണപതി) അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വിഘ്നേശ്വരൻ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗണപതിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം ലഭിച്ചാൽ എല്ലാ വിഘ്നങ്ങളും ഇല്ലാതാകുമെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. അതിനാൽ, വിഘ്നേശ്വരൻ എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശുഭാരംഭങ്ങൾക്കായി വിഘ്നങ്ങൾ ഇല്ലാതാക്കാൻ ഗണപതിയെ ആദ്യം പൂജിക്കുന്നു. പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിന്റെ സൃഷ്ടാവായ ഗണേശനെ മഹാഗണപതി എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗണേശന്റെ പൂർണ്ണ രൂപമാണ് മഹാഗണപതി. പൊതുവേ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത് മഹാഗണപതിയെയാണ്. ബുദ്ധി, സിദ്ധി, സ്മൃതി എന്നിവയുടെ ഇരിപ്പിടമായാണ് മഹാഗണപതിയെ കണക്കാക്കുന്നത്. 32 ഭാവങ്ങളിൽ മഹാഗണപതി പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നു. സിദ്ധിവിനായകൻ, ലക്ഷ്മി ഗണപതി, ക്ഷിപ്രപ്രസാദ ഗണപതി എന്നിവ അവയിൽ ചിലതാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, ഗണേശ ചതുർഥി ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ വെളുത്ത പക്ഷത്തിലെ ചതുർഥി ദിനത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ഉത്സവമാണ് വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി.
ഗണപതിയുടെ ജന്മദിനമായി ഇത് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗണപതിയുടെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ആഘോഷമായ വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, ഗണേശ ചതുർഥി എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഗണേശന്റെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ദിവസമായ വെള്ളിയാഴ്ച ഈ ആഘോഷം നടക്കുന്നു. സങ്കടഹര ചതുർഥി: മലയാള മാസത്തിലെ പൗർണമി കഴിഞ്ഞ നാലാമത്തെ തിഥിയാണ് സങ്കടഹര ചതുർഥി. ഈ ദിനത്തിൽ വ്രതം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ച് പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചാൽ, ഭക്തന്റെ എല്ലാ ദുരിതങ്ങളും നീക്കി ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ സഫലമാക്കുമെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
