കൊല്ലം നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പത്ത് കിലോമീറ്റർ തെക്കായി, കൊട്ടിയം ജംഗ്ഷനിൽ നിന്ന് രണ്ട് കിലോമീറ്റർ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശാന്തവും ശുദ്ധവും മനോഹരവുമായ ഗ്രാമമായ തഴുത്തലയിലാണ് വിഘ്‌നേശ്വരന്റെ വാസസ്ഥലം. തൃശൂർ പൂരത്തിന് സമാനമായ 'തഴുത്തല ഗജോത്സവം' എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ആനയാത്രയ്ക്ക് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. കർമ്മബന്ധനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ശാശ്വത മോക്ഷവും കലിയുഗത്തിലെ ദോഷങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് ആശ്വാസവും തേടിയുള്ള ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ ഇന്ന് തഴുത്തല ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയുടെ പാദങ്ങളിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നു. സർവശക്തനും സർവ്വവ്യാപിയും സർവജ്ഞനുമായ തഴുത്തല ശ്രീമഹാ ഗണപതി തമ്പുരാൻ എല്ലാ തിന്മകളെയും 'വിഘ്നങ്ങളെയും' അകറ്റി ഈ പ്രദേശത്തെ സംരക്ഷിച്ച് വാഴുന്നു.
തൻറെയടുത്ത് എത്തുന്ന എല്ലാവർക്കും ആശ്വാസവും അനുഗ്രഹവും ചൊരിയുന്നു. തഴുത്തല ശ്രീ മഹാഗണപതിയുടെ പത്തു ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം മലയാള മാസമായ മകരത്തിൽ (ജനുവരി-ഫെബ്രുവരി) ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തമായ ഉത്സവം, മകരമാസത്തിലെ തഴുത്തല അവിട്ടം തിരുനാൾ മഹോത്സവമാണ്. വിവിധ ഘോഷയാത്രകൾ, അതിഗംഭീരമായ ദീപാലങ്കാരങ്ങൾ, സാംസ്കാരിക പരിപാടികൾ, പ്രദർശനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ആളുകളെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് ആകർഷിക്കുന്നു. പത്തു ദിവസം ദേശം മുഴുവൻ ഉത്സവച്ഛായയിലായിരിക്കും. പത്താം ദിവസം തഴുത്തല ഗജോത്സവത്തോടെ ഉത്സവം സമാപിക്കുന്നു.
