This celebration takes place during the month of Kumbham (February/March) and spans ten days, featuring events such as Thiruvathira Aaratu and the offering of 101 Kudam Kalasam, along with Chathussatham. A notable highlight of the festival is the display of eight artificial horses, symbolizing the eight regions (karas) surrounding the temple. Additionally, it may be the only Nedumkuthira (Eduppukuthira - a procession of men carrying a vertical horse-chariot) event that occurs on water, attracting attention from tourists worldwide.Thrikkadavoor Sivaraju is a male elephant belonging to the temple, and he was bestowed with the Gajarajarathna Award by the Travancore Devaswom in recognition of his significance.
തൃക്കടവൂർ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കേരളത്തിലെ കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ, കൊല്ലം കോർപ്പറേഷനിലെ കടവൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തൃക്കടവൂർ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം. കേരളത്തിലെ നൂറ്റെട്ട് ശിവാലയങ്ങളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, മൃത്യുഞ്ജയഭാവത്തിൽ പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദർശനം നൽകുന്ന ശിവനെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ശിവന്റെ ഉപദേവതകളായി ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ, നാഗദേവത എന്നിവരും ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിര നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടി സമാപിക്കുന്ന പത്തുദിവസത്തെ ഉത്സവവും ശിവരാത്രിയുമാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആണ്ടുവിശേഷങ്ങൾ. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നത്, കൂടാതെ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ ലക്ഷണമൊത്ത ആനയായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശിവരാജുവിനെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുകയും ഗജരാജരത്ന പട്ടം നൽകി ആദരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.
