Arathakandappan Temple, located at Thudayannoor on the Kanjirathummoodu – Mannoor – Anchal Road in Kollam district, is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, known locally as Arathakandappan.
Arathakandappan Temple is especially popular for its 8-day annual festival celebrated in the Malayalam month of Kumbha Masam (February – March), which culminates on the auspicious day of Maha Shivratri. This vibrant festival is known for its Kuthirayeduppu (ceremonial horse procession), kettukazhcha (display of decorative effigies), traditional temple folk arts, melam (traditional percussion music), and various pujas and rituals, attracting numerous devotees.
A Shivling is worshipped in the main sanctum, or sreekovil, which is surrounded by a chuttambalam (enclosure), a namaskara mandapam (hall for prayers), and a kodimaram (flagpole). The temple, which was recently renovated, also houses upa devatas (subsidiary deities) including Lord Ganapathy and Goddess Bhagavathy. The nearby Chatara Devi Temple adds to the religious significance of the region, allowing devotees to visit both shrines for blessings.
തുടയന്നൂർ അരതകൺഠപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രം
കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിലെ കാഞ്ഞിരത്തുംമൂട് - മണ്ണൂർ - അഞ്ചൽ റോഡിൽ തുടയന്നൂരിലാണ് അരതകണ്ഠപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ചടയമംഗലത്തുനിന്നും 11 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരം, അഞ്ചലിൽ നിന്നും 12 കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം മഹാദേവനായ അരതകണ്ഠപ്പനെ സ്നേഹപൂർവ്വം ആരാധിക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രം നാടിനു ഐശ്വര്യവും സമൃദ്ധിയും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന ദേവാലയമായി വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ 8 ദിവസത്തെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം കുംഭമാസത്തിൽ (ഫെബ്രുവരി - മാർച്ച്) കൊടിയേറ്റത്തോടെ ആരംഭിച്ച് ശിവരാത്രി ദിനത്തിൽ സമാപിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ഉത്സവം കുതിരയെടുപ്പ്, ഘോഷയാത്ര, കെട്ടുകാഴ്ച, കേരളത്തിലെ തനതായ ക്ഷേത്ര നാടൻ കലാരൂപങ്ങൾ, മേളം, പൂജകൾ, അനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങൾ എന്നിവകൊണ്ട് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
അരതകണ്ഠപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് സമീപത്തായി ചാത്തറ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രവും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ ശിവലിംഗത്തെ പ്രഥമമായും ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീകോവിലിന് ചുറ്റമ്പലം, നമസ്കാര മണ്ഡപം, സ്വർണ്ണകൊടിമരം എന്നിവയോടെ മനോഹരമായി നവീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഗണപതി, ഭഗവതി എന്നിവരാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതകൾ, ഭക്തർക്ക് സമർപ്പിതമായ വഴിപാടുകളും പൂജകളും ഇവിടെയുണ്ട്.
