Veera Bhadra Swamy Temple is located approximately one kilometer from Trikarua Bhadrakali Temple. Veerabhadra represents the fierce aspect of Lord Shiva.
Veera bhadra swamy emerged from the wrath of Lord Shiva upon learning that Sati had immolated herself due to the disgrace inflicted by her father, Daksha, during a yajna known as Dakshayagam. Veerabhadra is revered as the protector of the weak and the oppressed. Sri Bhadrakali, who manifested to assist Veerabhadra, is said to have been born from the fury of Goddess Parashakti. This temple serves as a symbol of religious unity, where individuals from various castes and faiths engage in the significant and mythological ritual known as Shayana Pradakshina, seeking Salvation.
Devotees hold the belief that participation in the Shayanapradakshinam (floundering) will liberate them from adversaries and ailments. The Urul Nercha Utsav at the Ashtamudi Veerabhadra Swamy Temple includes a ceremonial bathing at the Triveni Sangam, followed by the floundering around the temple. In this sanctuary of spiritual unity, individuals from various castes and faiths engage in the significant and mythological ceremony known as Shayana Pradakshina, with the aim of achieving Salvation. Participants hold the belief that by taking part in the Shayanapradakshinam (floundering), they can eliminate adversaries and ailments. The Ashtamudi shrine dedicated to Swayambhu Sri Veerabhadra is notable for its lack of a roof, a distinctive characteristic of this significant temple, as the idol is believed to extend towards the sky. Tuesdays hold particular importance for devotees of Veerabhadra Swamy, with lemon lamps being the primary offering made during worship.
വീരഭദ്രസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
അഷ്ടമുടി, കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ പുഴയും കായലും കടലും സംഗമിക്കുന്ന ഏക ത്രിവേണിസംഗമമാണ്. ദക്ഷിണ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ഏക വീരഭദ്രസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം അഷ്ടമുടിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ത്രിക്കരുവ ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നും ഏകദേശം ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. 'വീരഭദ്രൻ' എന്നത് ശിവന്റെ രൗദ്ര അവതാരമാണ്. ശിവപുരാണത്തിലെ ദക്ഷയാഗവും ദക്ഷനിഗ്രഹവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഐതീഹ്യം. ശിവന്റെ ജട എട്ട് മുടികളായി പിരിഞ്ഞു, അതിനാൽ അഷ്ടമുടിക്കായലിന് രൂപംകൊള്ളുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. ദക്ഷന്റെ നടത്തിയ യജ്ഞത്തിൽ സതീദേവിയെ അപമാനിച്ചതിന്റെ ഫലമായി ദേവി അഗ്നിയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചതിനെ തുടർന്ന് ശിവന്റെ കോപത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് വീരഭദ്രസ്വാമിയുടെ ജനനം. അശക്തന്മാരുടെയും അശരണരുടെയും ഇഷ്ടദൈവമായ വീരഭദ്രൻ, തന്റെ സഹായത്തിനായി അവതരിച്ച ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി, ദേവി പരാശക്തിയുടെ കോപത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ജന്മം കൊണ്ടുവെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
മതസൗഹാര്‍ദ്ദത്തിന്‍റെ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ വിവിധ ജാതിമതസ്ഥരായ ആളുകള്‍ സുപ്രധാനമായ ഉരുള്‍വഴുപാടില്‍ (ശയനപ്രദക്ഷിണം) പങ്കെടുത്ത് സായൂജ്യമടയുന്നു. ഉരുൾ നേർച്ചയിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നത് കടുത്ത ശത്രുദോഷങ്ങളും രോഗദുരിതങ്ങളും മാറുമെന്ന് ഭക്തജനങ്ങള്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള പതിനായിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തര്‍ വീരഭദ്രജപത്തോടെ ഒന്നിച്ച് ഈ ഉത്സവത്തെ ഒരു ദേശിയോത്സവമായി മാറ്റുന്നു. ത്രിക്കരുവ ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ദര്‍ശനം വടക്കോട്ടും, വീരഭദ്ര സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ദര്‍ശനം തെക്കോട്ടുമാകുന്നതിലൂടെ ദേവനും ദേവിയും നേരിട്ട് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതമായിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു അപൂര്‍വ്വത ഇവിടെ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
കേരളത്തിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഹനുമാന്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. സഞ്ജീവനിവാഹകനായ ഹനുമാനെ ശനിദോഷം നീക്കാനും ആയൂരാരോഗ്യം നേടാനും വേണ്ടി ഭക്തര്‍ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീ വീരഭദ്രന്റെ അഷ്ടമുടിയിലെ ശ്രീകോവിലിന് മേല്‍ക്കൂര ഇല്ല എന്നത് ഈ മഹാക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. ആകാശത്തോട് ചേർന്ന് ഉയർന്നിരിക്കുന്ന മൂര്‍ത്തിയാണിത്, അതിനാൽ മേല്‍ക്കൂര ഒഴിവാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചൊവ്വാഴ്ചയാണ് വീരഭദ്രസ്വാമിയുടെ വിശേഷ ദിവസം. നാരങ്ങാവിളക്ക് പ്രധാന വഴിപാട്.
