Veettinal Bhagavathi temple is situated in Sooranad, within the Kollam district of Kerala. The temple is primarily dedicated to the worship of two principal deities: Goddess Bhadrakali and Goddess Durga.
In Thekkenada, the temple venerates Goddess Bhadrakali in accordance with the Kalari tradition, while in Vadakke Nada, Goddess Durga is honored. Historically, this temple was established in the 15th century by the king of Kayamkulam, and inscriptions from that era can still be found within its premises. The Bhadrakali murti, which is worshipped here, served as the upasana murti for the Kayamkulam king and is linked to themes of warfare. The temple is renowned for its intricate sculptures, and the festival is further distinguished by its exceptional carpentry work. Notable items such as the Pettapiri vala, chandravada vala, and chenkol vala are present in the temple. The walls of Vadakke Ambalam depict scenes from the Ramayana, and there exists a small kavu dedicated to the worship of snakes. The annual festival, lasting ten days in Kumbhmasam, commences with Trikkodiyettu and concludes with Thiru Aarattu.
വീട്ടിനാൽ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
കേരളത്തിലെ കൊല്ലം ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശൂരനാട് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് ശൂരനാട് വീട്ടിനാൽ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ പ്രദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന രണ്ട് പുരാതന, ചരിത്രപ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ സന്ദർശകർക്കു വിസ്മയം നൽകുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഭദ്രാദേവിയെയും ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയെയും ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. തെക്കേ നടയിൽ ഭദ്രകാളിയെ കളരി ആചാരപ്രകാരം ആരാധിക്കുന്നു, വടക്കേ നടയിൽ ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയെയും ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. 15-ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ കായംകുളം രാജാവാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചതെന്ന് ചരിത്രത്തിൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 15-ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ ലിഖിതങ്ങൾ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
കായംകുളം രാജാവിന്റെ ഉപാസന മൂർത്തിയായ ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിമയാണ്, ഇത് കളരിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ശിൽപകലയുടെ സമൃദ്ധിയാൽ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. അതിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകത അതുല്യമായ മരപ്പണി ആണ്, ഇത് വിസ്മയിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും ആകർഷകവുമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനകത്തും ശ്രീകോവിലിലും നിരവധി കൊത്തുപണികൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. വടക്കേ അമ്പലത്തിന്റെ ചുവരുകളിൽ രാമായണത്തിന്റെ കഥ കൊത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മഹാഭാരതവും രാമായണവും ശില്പരൂപത്തിൽ ഇത്ര പൂർണ്ണമായും കൊത്തിയിരിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച മറ്റൊരു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും കാണാൻ സാധിക്കില്ല.
അപൂർവ്വമായ പേട്ടപിരിവള, കൂട്ടിവള, ചന്ദ്രവാട വള, ചെങ്കോൽവള എന്നിവയും ഇവിടെ കാണാം. ഉപദേവന്മാരായ ഗണപതി, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സ്, യക്ഷി, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, യോഗീശ്വരൻ എന്നിവർക്കായി പ്രത്യേക കോവിലുകൾ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സർപ്പപൂജയ്ക്കായി ഒരു ചെറിയ കാവും ഉണ്ട്. കുംഭമാസത്തിൽ 10 ദിവസത്തെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം തൃക്കൊടിയേറ്റോടെ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
