The sole shrine dedicated to Dushasana, revered as a symbol of compassion, is located in Manimalakkunnu, near Chirakkadavu in Kottayam district, Kerala.
The deity worshipped at the Perur family shrine in Manimalakkunnu Chirakkadavu is Dushasana, the second among the Kauravas. In this location, the Kauravas commemorate each of their members through a ceremony known as Malavili, which is conducted once a year. Dushasana is regarded as the protector of the earth and agriculture in this context.
This temple, which boasts a history of over five hundred years, illuminates its ceremonial lamp only on the day following Thiruvonam. Ancient offerings and worship practices are diligently observed here. The deity is presented with fried tapioca and toddy as offerings. In gratitude for the belief that these rituals protect the land from natural calamities, agricultural products are offered as a form of thanksgiving. The celebrations commence from the family temple of the Perur ancestral home.
ദുശ്ശാസനൻ കാവ്, മണിമലക്കുന്ന്
ദുശ്ശാസനൻ കാരുണ്യമൂർത്തിയായി വാഴുന്ന കേരളത്തിലെ ഏക കാവാണ് കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ ചിറക്കടവിനു സമീപം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന മണിമലക്കുന്നിലെ ദുശ്ശാസനൻ കാവ്. അഞ്ഞൂറിലധികം വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ കാവിൽ തിരുവോണത്തിനു പിറ്റേ ദിവസം മാത്രമാണ് പൂജാവിളക്ക് തെളിയിക്കുന്നത്. പുരാതന വഴിപാടുകളും ആരാധനാ രീതികളും ഇവിടെ അനുഷ്ഠിക്കുന്നു.
മൂർത്തിക്ക് കപ്പ ചുട്ടതും കള്ളുമാണ് നിവേദ്യമായി സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. കൂടാതെ കരിക്കേറും വഴിപാടായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രകൃതിക്ഷോഭങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും നാടിനെ സംരക്ഷിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി കാർഷികോല്പന്നങ്ങൾ വഴിപാടായി നൽകുന്നു. പേരൂർ തറവാട്ടുവീട്ടിലെ കുടുംബക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്.
കന്നിമാസത്തിലെ ഒരു ദിവസം മാത്രമാണ് പൂജ നടത്തുന്നത്. പ്രദേശവാസികൾ ഈ ചടങ്ങിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കാൻ എത്തുന്നു. പാറക്കെട്ടുകൾക്കുമുകളിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നിരവധി കല്ലുകൾ ഉണ്ട്, ഇവയിൽ പ്രധാനമായത് ദുര്യോധനനാണ്. മണിമലക്കുന്നിലെ ചിറക്കടവിൽ, പേരൂർ കുടുംബവക കാവിൽ, ആരാധനാമൂർത്തിയായി കൗരവരിലെ രണ്ടാമനായ ദുശ്ശാസനൻ ഉണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ കൗരവർ ഓരോരുത്തരെയും അനുസ്മരിച്ച് മലവിളി എന്ന ചടങ്ങും, കരിക്കേറും വർഷത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. മണ്ണിന്റെയും കൃഷിയുടെയും സംരക്ഷകനായി ദുശ്ശാസനനെ ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.
