Kummanam Elamkavu Devi Temple is situated in Aymanam Village within the Kottayam district.
The principal deity venerated in the temple is Goddess Bhagavathy, who is depicted in a serene form. The sankalpam reflects the aspect of Bhagavathy, who vanquished the demon Darika, resulting in her anger being quelled. The Goddess is oriented towards the west, and there are no subsidiary deities present in the temple.
It is believed that the Goddess manifested in this location from Parapadam, inspired by the profound devotion of Kadapana Valiyamma. Historically, the temple was overseen by Karivelil Illam, but it is currently administered by NSS Karayogam. Situated approximately one kilometer west of Varissery along the Kottayam – Kudayampady road, the Kummanam Elamkavu Devi temple hosts its annual festival during the month of Meenam.
This eight-day celebration culminates in the Arattu ceremony on Meena Bharani day. The festival is renowned for the ezhunnallathu procession of Goddess Bhagavathy, as well as for showcasing traditional Kerala temple arts, music, and dance.
കുമ്മനം ഇളങ്കാവ് ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം
കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ അയ്മനം വില്ലേജിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കുമ്മനം ഇളംകാവ് ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം, ഭഗവതിയെ പ്രധാന മൂർത്തിയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ദേവി പടിഞ്ഞാറ് മുഖത്തുള്ള ഭക്തർക്ക് അഭയദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ദേവി ശാന്തമായ രൂപത്തിലാണ് പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെടുന്നത്. ദാരികനെ കീഴടക്കിയ ഭഗവതിയുടെ കോപം ശമിച്ചതാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സങ്കൽപം. ഇവിടെ ഉപദേവതകൾ ഇല്ല.
കടപ്പന വലിയമ്മയുടെ ശക്തമായ ഭക്തിയാൽ പ്രേരിതമായ ദേവി പാറപ്പാടത്തുനിന്ന് ഇവിടെ എത്തിയെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. പുരാതന കാലത്ത് കരിവേലിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്തിരുന്നുവെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ എൻഎസ്എസ് കരയോഗം ക്ഷേത്രഭരണം നടത്തുന്നു.
കോട്ടയം - കുടയംപടി റോഡിൽ വാരിശ്ശേരിയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ പടിഞ്ഞാറ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഇത്. കുമ്മനം ഇളംകാവ് ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവം മീനമാസത്തിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. എട്ട് ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവം മീന ഭരണി നാളിൽ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടിയാണ് സമാപിക്കുന്നത്.
