Kaduthuruthy Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple is a revered shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Kaduthuruthy, Kerala.
This temple, along with the Ettumanoor Siva Temple and Vaikom Mahadeva Temple, is regarded as one of the three most sacred and powerful Shiva temples in Kerala.
According to legend, Khara Asura, a great devotee of Lord Shiva, received the Saiva Vidya sermon from Malyavan, the great-grandfather of Ravana. Seeking moksha, Khara performed intense penance at Chidambaram, which pleased Lord Shiva.
In return, Shiva not only granted his boons but also gifted him three powerful Shiva Lingas. While journeying south from Mount Kailash, carrying these Lingas—one in his right hand, one in his left hand, and the third around his neck—Khara paused to rest and placed them down. However, when he attempted to lift them again, they remained immovable. Having attained moksha, Khara entrusted the Lingas to Maharshi Vyaghrapada, who had been following him, and requested him to worship and protect them.
It is believed that these Lingas became the presiding deities of the Vaikom Mahadeva Temple (right hand), Ettumanoor Siva Temple (left hand), and Kaduthuruthy Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple (neck). Visiting all three temples on the same day is considered equivalent to having a Shiva Darshan at Kailash and is believed to bestow immense blessings upon devotees.
Apart from Lord Shiva, the temple also enshrines sub-deities such as Lord Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappa, Yakshi, Vana Durga, and Dhara. Special offerings include Ganapathy Homam and Dhara.
The annual festival, a grand 10-day celebration, is observed in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December–January), drawing large crowds of devotees who participate in rituals, processions, and cultural festivities in honor of Lord Shiva.
കടുത്തുരുത്തി തളിയിൽ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ കടുത്തുരുത്തി ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന അതിപുരാതനമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കടുത്തുരുത്തി തളി മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം. ക്ഷേത്രം പരശുരാമനാൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായി ഐതിഹ്യമുണ്ട്, കൂടാതെ കടുത്തുരുത്തി ഗ്രാമത്തിൻറെ ദേശനാഥനായി ശിവനെ ആരാധിച്ചുവരുന്നു. ഖരമഹർഷിയാൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ട മൂന്നു ശിവലിംഗങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്.
വൈക്കം, കടുത്തുരുത്തി, ഏറ്റുമാനൂർ ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒരേ ദിവസം ദർശനം നടത്തുന്നത് അത്യുന്നതമായ പുണ്യഫലം നൽകുമെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ശിവൻ ശാന്തരൂപത്തിൽ കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനം നൽകുന്നു. ഉപദേവതകളായി ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ഭദ്രകാളി, വൈക്കത്തപ്പൻ, ഏറ്റുമാനൂരപ്പൻ, നാഗദൈവങ്ങൾ, ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സ് എന്നിവർക്കും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളുണ്ട്. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിൻറെ അധീനതയിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം.
ക്ഷേത്രവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഐതിഹ്യം അനുസരിച്ച്, ത്രേതായുഗത്തിൽ മാല്യവാൻ എന്ന രാക്ഷസതപസ്വിയിൽ നിന്നു ശൈവവിദ്യോപദേശം നേടിയ ഖര അസുരൻ മോക്ഷലാഭത്തിനായി ചിദംബരത്തിൽ കഠിനതപസ്സു ചെയ്തു. സന്തുഷ്ടനായ ശിവൻ ഖരനു ആവശ്യമായ വരങ്ങൾ നല്‍കി അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു, അതിനൊപ്പം ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ മൂന്നു ശിവലിംഗങ്ങളും അർപ്പിച്ചു.
ഈ ശിവലിംഗങ്ങളുമായി ഖരൻ ദക്ഷിണഭാഗത്തേക്ക് യാത്ര തുടങ്ങി. വഴിമധ്യേ വിശ്രമിക്കാൻ ശിവലിംഗങ്ങൾ ഭൂമിയിൽ സ്ഥാപിച്ചപ്പോൾ പിന്നീടത് ഇളക്കാൻ കഴിയാതെപോയി.
മഹാതപസ്വിയായ വ്യാഘ്രപാദമഹർഷിയെ സന്ദർശിച്ച ശേഷം ഖരൻ ശിവലിംഗങ്ങൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. തുടർന്ന് ഖരൻ മോക്ഷം നേടി.
ഇന്നും വലതു കൈകൊണ്ട് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ച ശിവലിംഗം വൈക്കം മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലാണെന്നും, കഴുത്തിൽ വച്ചിരുന്നതു കടുത്തുരുത്തിയിലും ഇടത് കയ്യിലേത് ഏറ്റുമാനൂരിലും പൂജിച്ചാരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. വൈക്കം, കടുത്തുരുത്തി, ഏറ്റുമാനൂർ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒരേ ദിവസം ദർശനം നടത്തുന്നത് കൈലാസശിവദർശനത്തിന്ന് തുല്യമാണെന്നു വിശ്വാസം.
കടുത്തുരുത്തി തളി മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ മൂന്നടിയോളം ഉയരമുള്ള ശിവലിംഗമായ കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. വൈക്കം, ഏറ്റുമാനൂർ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുമായി താരതമ്യപ്പെടുത്തിയാൽ തളി മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശിവലിംഗം ഏറ്റവും ചെറിയതും തനിക്കൊരു അതുല്യത പുലർത്തുന്നതുമാണ്.
ശിവനു പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട കൂവളമാല, തുമ്പപ്പൂമാല, രുദ്രാക്ഷമാല എന്നിവകൊണ്ട് ശിവലിംഗത്തിന്റെ മുക്കാൽ ഭാഗവും ആചാരാനുസൃതമായി അലങ്കരിച്ചിരിക്കും. മഹാശിവരാത്രി ആണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ആറാട്ട് ഉത്സവം ധനുമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിര നക്ഷത്രം ആഘോഷിക്കുകയും പത്തു ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. തളിയിലപ്പന്റെ ആറാട്ട് ഗോവിന്ദപുരം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വച്ച് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ആറാട്ട് കഴിഞ്ഞ് ഭഗവാന്റെ എഴുന്നള്ളത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോൾ ക്ഷേത്രാങ്കണത്തിൽ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ അർപ്പിക്കുന്ന തിരുവാതിരകളിയോടുകൂടി ഭക്തിസാന്ദ്രമായ ആചാരങ്ങളും ആഘോഷങ്ങളും അരങ്ങേറും. ഈ ദിവസം ധനുമാസത്തിലെ പൂത്തിരുവാതിരയായി ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
